Alexander pointed ahead, “We’re here.”
The shop Layla pointed us to was just another dead-end. The faded signs told us enough, and when we peeked through the windows, the place was empty. The barber must have noticed that we were looking for the fortune-teller, and stepped out of his shop, throwing a towel over his shoulder.
“Looking for something, kids?”
Alexander squeezed my hand, and I caught on that I shouldn’t say anything.
“We were looking for the fortune-teller lady. You see, my wife and I want to know if it’s a good time to have a baby.”
