I lean my head back against the plush leather and exhale slowly, steadily. The jet hums under us, soft as a secret, but everything inside me is roaring. My heart. My blood. My mind. All of it was all very loud. We’re flying into war, and no one’s calling it that, but I feel it in my bones. This ain’t no being there for each other friendship bullshit trip. This is cleanup. Page after page, just empty white paper. We spent hours in that library and gained nothing. A PAWN & A KING ~ALICE’S POV~ I was still standing there, staring at the door Noah had just walked through, trying to piece my sanity back together. But that was the thing about sanity. Once it cracks, it doesn’t take much to shatter. A low groan cut through the silence. I turned slowly, my stomach flipping as I saw Edward stir on the floor. Another groan, and he rolled onto his side, wincing as he dragged himself up onto his elbows.

Except it felt good. “Breaking news, we just got reports that there are many people trapped inside of the game, Arcane Realm.” The news channel on the television had both Luka and me breaking away from each other to gap at the news reporter on the screen. Luka grabbed the remote and turned the volume up so we could hear what was going on clearly.

Momodaeus said calmly, and Baselroth gritted her teeth. Suddenly they appeared in a shadowy place. Both of them were standing on a thin, long walkway. There were several other steep interconnected walkways. Far below them the ground was covered in molten lava, steep rocks and burning flames. The souls of the damned cried out for help as they burned, as they passed through brimstones and worms, working their way through their bodies with teeth sharp enough to cut their bones in preparation for them to become demons. At the farthest end of the steep interconnected walkways Baselroth could see the facade of the large castle where she lived. Its walls stretched several feets wide and fire torche

The broken sons and daughters of a dead age.” “Dead?” Elias said slowly, stepping forward. “You don’t know what death is yet.” “Don’t give him time to monologue,” Dorian muttered. “He loves monologuing.” Kai cracked his neck. “Can I kill something now?” Amaria raised her staff and scanned the field. “No mortal terrain anymore. We're in the fracture between realms. Anything goes.”

Rubbing his nose on hers, their breathing collided, hot and filled with intense feeling. “I’m Alaro, the king of the underworld. I am not human, Elara, I am part of the undead, and here is not my place which is why I couldn't show myself to you all this time because of the restriction between the living and the undead.” Slowly explaining to her, his eyes narrowed and he could hear her strong heart beat. He didn't know if its was fear, excitement or other emotions, but he want to tell the little human he had coincidentally encountered and fallen deeply for everything about him.
