Yeah, the last few weeks haven't been too kind to me. There were a few good things that happened and like “motivation gurus” always say in such an intense manner, “concentrate on the positives”. While I was never a fan of these kinds of motivation write-ups, videos or even self-help books, I agreed with that. It never hurts to count your blessings. It never hurts to appreciate all the good things that have happened or are happening to you.

Breaking bad habits was tough. Now that I had the time, I intended to experiment with Kathryn and basically everyone else’s advice. What did I have to lose? Maybe the results would surprise me. Perhaps wallowing in self-pity the whole weekend was the answer to lifting the heavy feeling in my chest. I could wear old sweats, eat chocolate, watch sad romantic movies and read every post about the newest couple in town. I could cry and feel sorry for myself. By the time Monday came, I would have exhausted all the tears. I could then pick myself up and focus on helping my clients find true love.

She was hoping that she could at least get a book for free since she didn’t have any crystals she could use to buy any books. When she walked into the bookstore, it was just a small room with a few shelves and among the books on the shelves she found a book she wanted. She picked up a catalogue first and read what was inside. She was allowed to pick two books for free and the rest she had to buy. Since a miracle was happening to her, she decided to take her time in order to pick two books that could help her in money making. She chose the herbs and flower introduction book; she believes that she could do well with it.

“Hate them, let it burn. Just don’t let it burn you down. They don’t get to take that too.” I lowered my hands and looked at him. “Why do you talk like you’ve read every self-help book in existence?” He huffed a small laugh. “Because I have and they’re mostly bullshit. Except the part about feeling the feelings instead of drowning them. That one stuck.” I managed a watery smile, the first real one since the bedroom door opened. “You’re weird,” I said. “You’re welcome.” The DJ dropped the beat again, something faster and louder. The crowd surged toward the dance floor. I watched them move like they didn’t have holes in their chests.

Only two seem to be nonfiction and self help books, yet when i check what content they will be self helping me with i feel surprise running through me. "The delicate art of seduction and manipulation." I fling that one to a corner of the room and pick up the other. "How to make men beg for a chance to fuck you." I fling that one even harder and it joins its partner on the floor near my wardrobe. There are four remaining. Four novels which I have two days to myself to devour. The smile that works its way up my face is radiant. I'm going to have such a good time.

I don’t have a phone I can use to reach either of them; I haven’t had a phone for days now. I flip the page of the self-help book which I’d grabbed from duty-free earlier, internally hating myself for not picking one of the other enticing fiction books I’d seen, but I thought about sleep, and the fact that I’d have to induce myself on this flight back to actually make it through, and went with it. It’s a book about the power of conversations, which I find ironic because of the situation I’m currently in, and because nothing in the past three pages I’ve read seemed helpful.

A book came out along with his hand, both fully intact. “The Courage to Trust,” by Dr. Franklin Reed. He had to be joking. There were hidden cameras here somewhere, I just knew it. No fucking way was the god of wolves cracking open a self-help book from the mortal realm. Sure enough, he fanned through the book eagerly, skipping over several chapters in the process. The tip of his tongue appeared from between his plump lips. He found the page he’d been looking for and quickly skimmed it. With a satisfied hum, he chucked the book behind his shoulder where it was swallowed up by that strange, shimmering magic.

Ordinarily, I would experience a surge of anxiety, wondering what new danger lay ahead. Not today, though, as I did not even bother looking.
