Once we got out of the cars, Patrick handed me a black, long-sleeved sort of armor made of thick and rough fabric. "Wear it," he ordered. I wanted to ask why, but then I looked closely at the material. I flinched as I realized that my new piece of clothing was made of Kevlar, which was supposed to protect me from bullets and sharp claws. I looked around and noticed that everyone wore similar, protective parts of clothing, making me acknowledge that it was going to be a whole different type of battle. "Shit," I cursed under my breath.

Their guns sprayed liquid fire made of ink. “The script must be clean,” they chanted, “mistakes must burn.” The Author snatched a handful of papers from her desk. “Sorry for this,” she whispered. I behead another crawler, my eyes blazing as I feel my thigh tingle as my mark surfaces, making the crawlers hiss as they shrivel back. I summon forward my power, gasping when I feel the crown on my head, and the shield that now appears strapped to my arm. I raise my arm, my hair whipping across my face as three crawlers slam into it before they shriek and jump away. I spin, jumping forward before kicking one of them. My armour is impressive and flexible. I can feel the power in the shoes, the way they adapt to any terrain, the way that the fabric itself is armour, even the crawlers are unable to rip the fabric. Science at its finest.
