Kathleen stood looking at him as he headed to the staircase. “Don't forget to take your medicines. I keep them on the nightstand for and if you ever need anything, call me or Flavia, okay?” Charles nodded as he ascended the stairs with his grip on the stairs railings. His room was facing Charlene, he walked over and planted a soft knock on it. “Go away, charles.” She yelled from inside. “Just open this damn door before I break it.” He ordered sternly.

I joked, and Charles shrugged. “A woman like Megan Cole makes it impossible not to be a gentleman,” he replied, following in the line of my joke. “Anyways, we seriously need to talk.” I nodded, signaling for him to continue. “I’ve been doing some thinking,” Charles began, “and I understand that the constant flow of people in and out of the house is not fair to you. I want to make things right.” I raised an eyebrow, curious about what solution he might propose. “I promise to reduce the number of women I bring home. We need to find a balance that works for both of us,” Charles stated sincerely.

Wynn was anxious. Philip quickly stepped forward and patted Charles on his back, doing deep breathing exercises with him. It took a long time for Charles to calm down. He drank a big glass of water in one gulp before clenching his fists tightly while cursing, “I can’t believe there are two thieves in the household! I didn’t treat them badly but they actually did such a beastly thing to me!” Martha was angry and cursed, “Charles, just look at this! The company is gone and the house is gone. I could tell that your two brothers weren’t good people. I didn’t expect them to strike out at us like this!”

I couldn't even sort out my own mother's hospital bills and had to rely on a pompous show off to pay it. "Welcome home master and milady" an old man who walked out of the building greeted with a bow and led the way into the house. As if sensing my curiousity, Blaine whispered to me "this is the house butler, Charles. He knows about your true identity so don't bother putting up an act" I raised an eyebrow at his words "how come he knows?" I asked. "I don't hide anything from him. He's one of my closest person and you can always ask him for help anytime I'm indisposed,that is,for the days you'll be spending here" He replied with a knowing smirk on his face, hinting at our farce.

“I don’t think adding anyone to that list again would be good.” “But Uncle Nathan is not like any of the other Hamil…Hamilton.” Peeking up from my arm, Charles challenged back. “He is the nicest of them all. He's kind. He buys me toys. He eats with me. He likes me, and I know he likes mommy too.” My cheeks flushed pink. “Oh boy,” Noah sighed resignedly. “You're too young to understand things like these. How do you even—“ “I'm not too young,” Charles swiftly cut in.

He had taken a real thing and had built something terrible from it and the something terrible had not worked and the not working of it was going to produce consequences that were going to land on his life in ways that had not yet finished arriving. None of that was something I had made happen. All of it was something he had made happen. Charles said and bowed his head as he led the way. Charles has been the family butler for the past twenty six years, when Williams and Maria just got married. He was here when all their children were born, and he loved all of them like his own. The family has been really good to him, he has his own wife which is also the chief maid of the house. And he has fathered four children. They arrive at Christopher's room no one, except Charles knows what is going on. Williams had asked the doctor to come over to the house instead, he didn't want anybody especially the media knowing that his eldest son and child tried to kill himself.

Lena’s POV My phone lit up in the holster on the treadmill. It was a message from Charles. I quickly pressed stop on the machine and hopped off, eager to get an update from him. Charles: I just got a notification. The package should be on your doorstep. No sooner had I read his message, was I running to beat Frederick to the front door. Frederick was our butler. While he was the best butler my family had ever hired, he came with one fatal flaw—he was nosy as all get out.

For all I know, it could be another one of his goddamn tests. He has established again that there's really nowhere else to run and I am pushing the retriever side of me and just completely accepting this life. Charles is a man who's so obsessed with winning and giving that a pure submission should make things fine, right? I closed my eyes and opened them when I heard Anthony's soft giggles. It's been 5 years since Charles and I have separated, and I am once again living in England. I needed time away, I still have my places in Ithaca and Chicago. I closed up Ithaca a while ago and hired housekeepers to tend the property in my absence, I only come to the house if I am in New York on business, I still have a book store that is working there. My Chicago home Charles checks on for me since he lives close by while heading to our place of work. Charles became Vice President of the company after Garrett's disappearance, and I do not regret the decision, he has done an amazing job.
