~Ruby's POV~ “So what have you been doing all day?” I asked, closing the door behind me. “Mom!” Little Ruby squealed, running to hug me “Roman’s been helping us draw. Look!” She held up a page filled with a colorful creature. “Is this supposed to be Raphael from TMNT?” I said with a raised brow. “Yes, Mum.” I smiled faintly, ruffling her hair. “Looks like you’ve been busy.” Rhett stood up, holding out another drawing. “This one’s mine. Roman said it’s the best.”

The Fae grumbled the entire time. “I told you,” Barbie said, dusting her shimmering wings. “Rivers. Never again. My wings smell like dead fish.” Marigold muttered, “You’re lucky I didn’t drown trying to save your shiny butt.” “My regal shiny butt,” Barbie corrected with a glare. “And for the record, wolves don’t float gracefully either.” I exhaled, trying not to laugh — and failing. Even after everything, even in the shadow of what was coming, they could still bicker like siblings in a sandbox.

Ryan lifts his hand and gives a tiny little wave. I lift my hand and do the same thing. A smile spreads over his lips. It gives me butterflies, and I watch him as he heads off to train with the warrior werewolves. "Aw," Laura is drying off a fake tear on her finger. "You two are so freaking adorable! It's like we are back in high school again..." I blush in embarrassment, yet I can't fight my smile. "Shut up!" "Uh, no? How can I be quiet after Ryan looks at you, with those eyes and that freaking smile?"
