Explain. Adrian looked at his father. In one future, Mom enters the void. She survives. But she slowly forgets all of us. In the other, the Shadow King enters. He dies. But the worlds survive. Cassian exhaled. Then we choose the second. Adrian shook his head. There is a third. Everyone went silent. Arielle looked at him. What third? Adrian's eyes filled with tears. A future where neither of them enters. Lyra's face tightened.

It reeked of impending madness; the opening yawning before him like an omen. William stared in as the group walked by it on their way to the next room over. Inside this one was a solid silver slab with chains hanging from the edges where the arms and legs of the victim; him, in this case; would lie. Under the slab was a metal funnel to drain the bloodshed. His bloodshed. Above the slab was a huge grate of metal spikes. The spikes were approximately a foot in length, which guaranteed they pierced all the way through the body from the front to the back.

“I’m just glad we haven’t been giving the new ones any wolfsbane. Who knows? Maybe they’ll learn to control it on their own.” Gray nods and offers Bo a wide grin. “Maybe. They’ll be a hell of a lot better than us if they do.” We all know the truth though. Lycanthropy is a curse. There is no way to control it. Not on the full moon. “Come,” Bo says, knocking me out of the dooming thought of our near future. He puts a hand on my back, lightly guiding me to start walking. “Alazaer is down by twin hills, waiting for the others to come back,” he tells us.

The images were still fresh in my mind, haunting me. Ronan. Kieran. Cian. They were all dead. They had all burned. And it was my fault. I pressed my hands to my face, trying to scrub the image away, but it lingered. It clawed at the edges of my mind, refusing to let go. “No,” I whispered, shaking my head. “No. This isn’t real. It can’t be real.” But deep down, I knew it was. The future that the Shadow Prophet had shown me—it was my future. A future I couldn’t escape.

“Then Reinar is going to wind up being our fated mate.” My eyes land on the right side of the road. There is a sign there that is very modern. It’s blue with glowing, pink holographic text that says, “Wanna see how it all ends? Your dreams will let you see the future!” Panic wells up in my throat. “So if I choose the power to have foreshadowing dreams, then fate will somehow choose Reinar as my mate? Jesus, what a miserable fate that would be...but then again, I don’t really want Jackson either!”

~^~ The drive towards our destination felt like forever. Not that I know what forever feels like, I've barely hit my thirties but look at the shit that I was being hit with already. Sinister and Archer followed us behind since it had no space for them in our vehicle. Honestly, the pain was becoming unbearable by the second, so much so that I lost track of time.

The evil we were creating, the one we wanted to abolish and everything in between, it would be me. The council of elders were eager to meet, they wanted an update, surety that everything would go on as planned. But I wasn't through yet, oh no, Naomi. I'm not yet done with you. Until you realize the truth for yourself and the vision comes to you, then I will bring the shadow of death just at the right time. Not a minute more nor a minute less. My second had been out for a few days, until they came back into radar. Then I would proceed with the next plan.

He even kept me company when I got in trouble. As Thorne got older, he started to realize how things worked in our world, like who had power and how the crown was passed down through families. He also figured out he might be chosen to be my mate. We were supposed to be together to strengthen our families and our groups. It seemed like everything he was learning was to help him be there for me one day. However, Thorne did not like having his future all planned out. He was supposed to be the next alpha, the leader, yet he wanted to be free.

“You’re drooling, Little River.” He teases lightly, and I flush. “Sorry” I murmur, but before he can say anything, something moves beside him and moves towards me as if coming in for a hug. I scream and jump back, only to take a close look… What in the Dr. Facilier shit, is this? Is that his shadow casually coming my way? “I-uh-I…” “Back.” He says, and the shadow seems to deflate sadly and then retreat into his actual shadow.
