I whispered, fear licking my skin. His eyes lit up and dread filled me. "You see, when our spies learned that Gabrielle was alone in her castle, abandoned by her husband, temptation got the better of us. I mean, he might as well have offered her on a silver platter." I squeezed his hand, and his eyes were fixed on me, he shut his eyes and cursed, rubbing his temples, his eyes snapped open and he stared back at me, holding my cheek "Ava, do you think I would intentionally take away what I know would bring you happiness? I would never, you might not understand now, but some things are better left unsaid, I want you to know that Gabriel does not love you, he is just filled with lust, and you are mistaking it for love, and you will come to understand this soon," I took a step back, pulling myself away from his grasp.

Mother Grace held an awareness of Gabriel's tendencies, recognizing his manipulative traits reminiscent of his father's. Amelia had been on the verge of dispelling uncertainties, preparing to unravel the sequence of events that had transpired, when the abrupt pounding of the chamber's door disrupted the atmosphere. Her gaze darted towards the entrance, revealing none other than Gabriel himself. His eyes glowed crimson with fury. Mother Grace, too, followed Amelia's line of sight, her anger camouflaged behind a veneer of neutrality. Gabriel held the power to terminate her employment – a knowledge that tethered her response.

With a final burst of strength, I channeled all the amulet's power into the circle, disrupting the ritual and collapsing the vortex. Gabriel screamed in rage and pain as the energy backlash struck him, his form flickering and fading. But as the light dimmed, I saw his eyes fix on mine, a promise of vengeance burning within them. The battle was over, but the war was far from won. Gabriel had been stopped, but the cost had been high, and the threat was not fully vanquished.

Blood spurting from Gabriel’s wingless right part of the body hit her face. Gabriel, whose wings were rendered useless, grasped Selaphiel’s neck with every intention of choking her to death. Veins popped from Selaphiel’s neck and forehead. “You insolent brat! If I am going down, then I will bring you down with me.” With one less wing from his back, Gabriel the Faithful took advantage of the fleeting moment of balance he was able to conjure from his one last left wing.

But beneath the cliffs, in the shadowed places, things slithered—demonic forms biding their time for man’s arrival. And then— The clouds parted. Gabriel descended. Wings of molten gold flared behind him. His armour shimmered like the cosmos. In his hand, a sword—plain, yet humming with celestial fire. He fell like a comet, slamming into the earth. The ground split beneath his landing. A beast lunged—stone and rot, ten-legged and snarling. Gabriel rose. The sword ignited. Light drowned the dark. And Hell trembled. Back in the chapel, candlelight danced over old stone. Scott and Faith sat in the front pew, eyes fixed on Larkam.

The hot spring began bubbling furiously. "I wouldn't anger Father. He was already lenient in your punishment, letting Azrael return you here. To rise from that forsaken lake no one should lay eyes on. You should be thankful," Gabriel began to flap his wings. "Let's go," he ascended without waiting for me. "If he's actually summoned me, it's important," I dusted off my shirt. I tried to give them my best reassuring face. "I doubt that's all there is to it, but be careful," Lilith said before I left.

The adjustment was tenuous,to say the least.For weeks afterwards,Gabrielle would appear to her at every ungodly hour of the day and night,begging her friend to cross her over,to no avail.It was her destiny,and had to be played out.

Gabriel looked at her with something close to pity. “Oh, Ava. You never understood the scale. You think I built you to be the final word. But you were always the test case.” Rowen laughed, bitter. “You’re bluffing.” He looked at Hart. “I’m not.” 03 stepped forward now, her voice low. “You said you accounted for this. For her awakening. You planned for rebellion?” “I planned for reality,” Gabriel replied. “People fear chaos. But they fear too much clarity even more. They crave a controlled disruption. So I created one.”

The others couldn’t help but notice that tonight his powerful aura didn’t glow with the typical Savior’s golden hue, but rather the Warrior’s reddish hue. It gave the other Brethren pause, and Gabriel took note since nothing like this had ever happened before. He hoped it was only a temporary condition, since he knew how E.L. would take Raphael’s crossing the line of duty. Not well. He didn’t allow any Brethren to absorb powers that belonged to another Brethren group. To each his own powers. That was the law. Finally, with the outside guards out of the way, they broke into the mansion. “Raphael, do you feel her yet?” questioned Gabriel, as the Brethren met up by the side of the house.
