Emily screamed— Adrian lunged— Gabriel smiled— And with a flick of his wrist, he hurled Adrian through a pillar, sending him crashing out of sight. Emily scrambled to her feet. Gabriel turned to her with calm, terrifying certainty. “Come,” he said. “This is already decided.” Emily backed away. “No—no, stay away—” But Gabriel didn’t move. He simply smiled, soft and cold. “Your destiny,” he whispered, “begins with me.” And from somewhere in the darkness beyond the rubble, Adrian’s voice roared with a fury that made the earth tremble— “GET AWAY FROM HER!”

CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT Sera’s POV “But, why do you not love me,” Gabriel cried. “How could you possibly not love me?” I cringed hard at my laptop, watching the grown man act a fool for the millionth time. “I gave you so many chances, Gabriel,” Annalise, the female character cried, clutching her wedding petals in her hands. “Why do you not want me to have love?” I laughed out loud. “What a joke,” I said, laying down more comfortably between my sheets and the blanket. “Well then,” Gabriel pulled out a gun from his suit, “if you do not love me, no one else will.”

“Chet’s called in a favor, and I think it’s to keep you safe until he can make contact.” “But why? Who are you to him?” Gabriel stands from his seat, his eyes still lingering on me. There’s something almost… hungryabout the way he looks at me. It’s a blink and you miss it sort of thing, though, because the next moment he’s turning away to leave. “Nobody important,” he answers. I huff. “You do realize that only makes me more curious, right?” “There are a few rules you need to follow while you’re here.”

… Early the next morning, Gabriel received a call from Wren just as he stepped off the plane. "Gabriel, come to the hospital right away. Harrison and I need to talk to you," Wren said urgently. Gabriel frowned, replying, "I'm a bit busy right now. I'll come by in the evening." He hung up and was about to call his assistant when a news notification popped up on his screen. His grip on the phone tightened, and his eyes widened in disbelief as he clicked on the article. A minute later, Gabriel called his assistant, his voice icy. Listen, I was hoping I could ask you a favor,” I said getting straight to the point.

"You know! Who told you?" "It doesn't matter; I found out. Nothing to say? What were you planning to do there, Gabe?" He didn't answer, just willed me to read his intent in his eyes. I did, and I didn't like what I saw. I pulled my phone and hit one button while looking at him. The line was picked up on the second ring. "Gabriel is grounded until further notice. Anyone who takes him up is going to end up in a bad situation. Understood?" I hung up the phone and turned back to him.
