Wolves prowled the walls above, their eyes tracking us like predators deciding whether I was prey or poison. The Blackthorn Palace loomed ahead, not warm and hearth-like like Vale’s hall, but a fortress of iron and glass. Its windows caught the moonlight, fractured it, and threw shards of silver across the courtyard. It felt like stepping into a house of blades.
