Chapter 32 MALAKAI ​There was a real castle from medieval times sitting in the middle of a rainforest. Black iron gates surrounded it and ravens circled above. ​"Maybe it is haunted." I shuddered, looking at the creepy house that seemed to lean to one side. ​"Afraid of ghosts, too?" Alaric bumped my shoulder and I growled at him. ​"You are the one afraid of ghosts." I mumbled, quickly taking it back when Alaric turned on me.

He was pleased. I sat on the blooded grounds, staring at my handwork, centuries repeating itself, time and time again. But we remained, me and my brothers. It seemed like a punishment from the goddess. While others withered away, we stayed behind to bear the burden of our catastrophe, bound by the life of our mother. I got up and headed back to the castle. A warm bath would be prepared for me. The moment I stepped foot into the castle, that rich chocolate scent hit the back of my nostrils. It was then I realised I would never escape the fate that laid before me.

The magnificent fortress stood on a cliff's edge, built entirely of black obsidian that gave off a dark sheen in the moonlight. The castle seemed carved from the night itself. Ancient stone doors were carved with intricate crests. Two giant stone dragons coiled around the pillars, their ruby eyes glowing in the dark. As the great doors of the Obsidian Castle swung open, I saw him. Damien. He stood before a towering window, a silhouette against the night.

I have to get the hell away from the enormous bat, run as far away as I can before the monster eats me. Looking up, I notice that the castle is on fire. Fabian brought his men here, all of them angry humans under his mind-control. It doesn't surprise me he made them destroy our castle—Fabian was always envious of what we had achieved here. Saving my parents feels unmanageable and impossible—I don't possess any magic abilities to fight Fabian.
