I reached out and pressed the radio button on the steering wheel. My voice was cold, cutting through the static. "Mason Vale, do you see a ghost in your mirror?" I said coldly into the radio. Those words pierced straight through Mason's last line of composure. His car hesitated for an obvious instant on the straight. Now. I smashed the throttle down. The car tore through the air and pulled alongside him. Ahead was a chain of fast S-curves. Seeing that I was about to pass, a vicious look flashed through Mason's eyes.

My voice bounced around the tiny apartment, thick with rage I couldn't hold back. The ceiling light started going berserk, flickering on and off wildly. A chill shot up my spine, sharper and deeper than ever before. In the corner, a patch of shadow began to twist and ripple, gathering into one spot. A human-shaped silhouette, darker than the darkness around it, slowly peeled itself out of the shadows. The figure was tall and slender—it was a woman's outline wrapped in an indistinct shroud of black mist. There was no wind, but it felt like the air had been sucked from the room in an instant. Then, an icy, emotionless voice rang out. It wasn't in my ears, but directly inside my head.

I had no choice, so I dug through every gift Zoe had ever given me, but I found nothing. Just when I was about to give up, I shook a pillow, and a tiny paper figure floated out. Its face was drawn to resemble Lucas, and his birth details were written on the back! The fortune teller exclaimed, “That’s it! The lock and the paper figure work together, and since you've touched the lock, the effect on you is stronger. Luckily, you found it early.” I broke out in a cold sweat. That same day, I slipped the paper figure under Miles’ pillow and instructed my parents to watch him while he slept.

I trailed off, noticing a nightmare eye close enough to listen to our conversation. “Have the night where I's been following us the whole time.” I asked, realizing I had focused too much on my task and him. He nodded. “Yeah, it appeared soon after I destroyed the last one. Why?” i ignored his question and try to walk back down the hallway. Clemson didn't stop me probably thinking I was going back but while he might have not stopped me before I could even take five steps the Nightmare I was in front of me. I tried to step around it but got the same result.

Almost immediately, something in her expression changed, as if she sensed there was still more. “But what else, Alex?” Her voice, soft yet urgent, reflected her cautious nature and her need to know everything—to understand. She couldn’t relax without the whole truth, no matter how terrifying it might be. Alex fell silent for a moment, staring at the ground as if the words were hard to say. Finally, he sighed and lifted his gaze, his seriousness making it clear that what he was about to say wasn’t something he had wanted to share. “Last night, I had an unexpected visitor,” he murmured, keeping his eyes fixed on Scarlett. “Zafira. The gorgon who tried to drown you.”

“In the basement. Now.” Before Ghost kills everyone.

The altar’s broken shape loomed behind them, cracked stone glowing with unnatural pulses. I gasped. Sarah’s hand found mine. Daniel crouched nearby, silver blade drawn. John’s torch flickered far ahead just a flame swallowed by shadows. David lay before the altar, unconscious. His mark glowed a violent red. The ghosts’ hunger pulsed toward him. Their chant deepened. A voice whispered in my mind, cold as frost: “He remembers. I remember. You belong.” I froze. Sarah tugged me back. “We have to move.” But the ghosts didn’t wait,they surged forward.

He stood straight with a serious face as he began his explanation. "Ghosts are the souls of dead humans who... well, aren't ready to rest in peace. They don't have powers. All they can do is move from one place to another without being seen. Well, not by everyone though." "But... if you're a demon, why then are you in this form?" She couldn't help but ask.
