The other men in the van rushed to catch their fallen comrade, when a familiar face popped into existence. Ghost melted from thin-air, his eyes black as night. In his hand was the blood-soaked blade that had gone through the throat of the male that had planned on raping me. He smiled at the others, this deadly, flat thing that had the hairs along the back of my neck rising. I’d never say this aloud, but Ghost was even more frightening than my would-be rapist.

I hate myself for considering that some part of me is relishing the prospect of igniting that board… even if it burns him up too. "What's in the coin?" I insist. A pause. "Truth," they answer brusquely. And they're off—gliding into the darkness so fast my eyes can't track the motion. I turn back to Pandora. "Can you track them?" With the vest– Devil’s Sons. “Name’s Ghost,” he said quietly, keeping his distance. “We’ve been watching this war from the outside. King is getting too bold, too powerful. It’s bad for business. We want him gone.” Hazel’s pulse hammered. “What do you want from me?” Ghost kept his hands visible. “Inside information. Reaper’s plans. Timing on the next hit. In return, we extract you and your friend Lena. Clean IDs. Full protection far away from here. No more tracker. No more Reaper.”
