Our room, a sanctuary of love and power within the Packhouse, was breached under the veil of morning's light. The air shifted, a cold, almost palpable darkness seeping into our room. I stirred, sensing the disturbance before it fully revealed itself. My instincts, honed through years of leadership and battle, screamed a warning. The faint, almost imperceptible sound of movement reached my ears. Ghouls. Creatures of the night, forsaken and lost, but deadly. Their presence here, in the heart of my territory, was a declaration of war.

“I’m sorry, Liam. I don’t know how to sense them because I’ve never seen a ghoul before.” “Damn it,” Liam mutters under his breath, tightening his grip on my shoulder. “We need to get out of here. Fast.” Before I can even process what Liam is saying, the ghouls appear out of nowhere. Their ghostly figures seem to appear and disappear almost like a mirage, and their shrieking fills the air. Fear takes over me, especially when I hear a voice inside of my head say, ‘Purple-eyed wolf. I want to feast on your blood and take your powers!’

‘Don’t worry ice cream, we’ll destroy her like we did before and this time she won’t take anything with her. I swallowed hard. ‘She almost…’ ‘Trust me.’ I nodded, taking a deep breath. “Advanced monsters?” the Beta asked as we lingered over that possibility for a second. “Worse,” I said quietly. Charlie sat up now. “There was once a book with lists of-of undead creatures that demons or any other evil being can reform undead from the underworld into…” “Where is it then?” the Gamma asked but Charlie’s face already answered it. “The book of the undead was said to be in every packhouse but I’ve searched everywhere. I even pulled out a search crew to ma-make it easier. Nothing was… found.”

He was the second strongest fighter after Kevin and also one of the Wright family's survivors. "That's right, I know what they were." Tora nodded, looked at the others, and his Adam's apple bobbed: "Those should be evil creatures recorded in ancient books—Blood Ghouls." Hearing the name, everyone froze. Mouths fell open in disbelief and horror. Chantelle could not help herself. "Captain Tora, please. That's impossible. Creatures like that are myths, just legends. They don't actually exist." Tora's face darkened. "Ms. Garcia, I've lived through hell tonight. Do I look like I'm in the mood to joke?"

Vision swimming, head ringing, choking on pain and more than a little caught off guard Brandon held his stomach and looked up from beneath his tear stained lashes. And froze in disbelief and horror. Two olive skinned Ghouls stood before him, slowly stalking closer to him. Closing in for the kill. These Ghouls were reminiscent of the Ghouls that had attacked Ezekiel’s home and killed Billy the bee keeper....but Brandon instantly knew that these were not the same beasts.

Dad grabbed the nurse, throwing her out of the room alongside himself. "Well-done, Emily, you have accomplished your mission." A sinister scent emerged, a wicked laugh echoing across the room. The once blue sky was now a mixture of black and white with the moon reflecting its radiant image. Wails filled the air as a ray of light fell from the sky, hitting a mountain on the other side of town. I groaned, wincing as my hand was scorched by the flaming book. The pages settled, words in red appearing on the pages. "Strigoi, Nosferatu, Jiangshi…"

I saw Eric as three of the beings tackled him to the ground and I concentrated on them first. “Brenna,” I said as I locked eyes with one of them and I felt the cold dread in my soul. His eyes were lifeless and black, his skin was pale like a corpse that had been dead for some time. His nails were long and he had fangs instead of teeth. ‘Watch out for their bite, that’s how they fight,’ I said in everyone’s heads. ‘What are they?’ Slade asked. ‘Ghouls,’ I said. We were on the attack and I saw the ghouls go down easily but to my utter shock they stood up again after a few minutes of being killed. The only ones that remained dead were the ones I had burned.

And something faintly metallic beneath it all. Blood. --- His fingers moved across worn spines until he found what he sought. Soul Vessels. Forbidden Possessions. Underworld Bindings. Kael pulled the heavy books free and placed them across a nearby table. The candles lit themselves automatically. He began reading. --- Hours passed silently. Only the sound of turning pages filled the room. Kael’s expression darkened more with every text. Some spoke of spirits entering weak bodies. Others described possession through mirrors, cursed artifacts, blood rituals.

They are usually...” Harold knew what professor Travis was talking about. What him and the two others called ‘Shadows’ were actually ‘Ghouls’. Professor Travis continued talking on a lot of other differences and when he was done, he moved on to a whole new topic but they were trivial. At least, to Harold's survival.
