Deep Inside
Tamlyn Grenoy hadn’t meant to trespass.
She was just after the fever-root, a stubborn plant that only grew under moonlight in the forbidden part of the Ardelth woods, where the trees curved like ribs around a broken god. She moved quickly, her satchel thumping softly against her hip, hands brushing aside low branches as her boots skidded on moss.
And then she heard it.
A low, guttural growl that seemed to roll up from the earth itself, like stone grinding against bone.
