She could hear her blood pulsating fast by her pounding heart as if it would explode any second now. “I saw the red door shut close earlier. SHOW yourself!” the old man said. Larice stopped after reaching far enough, opened the book, and searched again. Sweat dripping onto the yellowed pages, she scanned faster with the words scrambling in her head. Seconds after and she thought she read a familiar word … so she went back … And then she gasped. “Glacia!” Her eyes widened as she found it on the list of contents. She quickly flipped through the pages until she arrived at the exact place in the exact year.

Theresa was old enough to have experience, but looked young enough to please Salem’s eyes—two key requirements for a housekeeper in his home. “Where is Salem now?” I asked. I hissed. I ran at Silas. I didn't use a punch or a kick. I grabbed the leather-bound book from my pocket. It was still glowing with the purple and green light from the last chapter. I didn't throw it at him. I shoved the blue microchip, the one I had pulled from the Bryan-machine into the spine of the book. BZZZZT. The book didn't just grow this time. It opened a hole in the air. A massive, black vacuum started to suck in the gray dust. It was a "Delete" command, but it wasn't coming from the sky. It was coming from me.

I take a deep breath and yank it open. Nothing happens. I let out a relieved sigh, reaching for the novel: The Old Man And The Sea. That is when I feel it, the rough surface my fingers come in contact with. I retract my hand to stare at my glitter covered palms, a frown drops to my lips and I stagger backwards. But it is too late. The small sized buckets of glitter held together by a string dips, I slip and fall to the floor in my hurry to escape.
