I smiled faintly. “Nana, I swear to you, I’m fine. I’ll come visit.”
Her face softened, but I could tell she didn’t quite believe me. Once she returned to cooking, I checked my phone, and froze.
The feed was live, my heart began to pound. He was wearing it. Mr. Everhart had finally put on the wristwatch.
The footage was shaky at first, jerky even, since the microcamera was hidden inside the crown of the watch, right between the ridges where the dial met the base. Every movement of his wrist made the camera tilt, showing me fragmented views of walls, shoes, and flashes of papers.
