I refuse to surrender and become a victim," I retort defiantly, my voice filled with determination. Once again, I narrowly evade their lunges and swipes. However, while dodging their attacks, my foot stumbles upon a sharp stone, causing a deep gash. Blood begins to flow instantly, staining the ground crimson. "The scent is intoxicating. I survey my surroundings and realize that I am cornered, trapped by these two monstrous creatures.

His eyelashes were flickering, and tears crept out of the corners of his eyes. "I feel like I'm in a dream. Everything's just so wonderful. I'm so glad to have you by my side." He ran barefoot across the sand with his arms wide open. As the wind blew, he called out, "Jeanette!" He turned around to look at me. "I'm here."

"I'm sorry, buddy. We can't fit through there. We're too big. Are you afraid of something in the woods? Is there something dangerous out there?" He blinks his coal black eyes and stares at me. "Hold on." Alec holds up a hand and listens. "Do you hear that?" I stand up. "What?" I hold my breath and listen and then it comes to me. A rhythmic sound. Like a thousand little drums. Or feet. Alec's throat rolls with a swallow. "Let's get out of here." I take a step backwards, ready to flee. "Come on, little guy," I tell the goblin. "We have to go."

His heart skipped a beat at what he saw below. Goblins. There must have been at least a hundred of the foul creatures, running and waving their crude swords and spears. They streamed down from a gap in the far valley wall, some distance West of where Randey stood. Where they had come from he couldn’t imagine. But though he had never actually seen a Goblin, he knew that’s what they were. He’d heard enough tales from his parents to recognize them.
