An old saying surfaced in my mind: Corner a dog, and it will bite back. Their reckless cruelty in the past had finally turned into a slap from reality. After graduation, my career advanced smoothly. The nightmare that had once haunted me faded away like smoke in the wind.

While I was a few meters away from the baby, just like flash, she arrived some distance away from me and before I could say or do anything her lips start moving up and down, and the dryness of the baby pierced through the air. It was as if someone was lifting the baby because she was halfway in the air. The baby was descending in a fast process, before I could part open my mouth to say, "stop!"

“Can’t show up himself but sends a damn messenger.” “Are you sure your safe?” “Yeah. Honestly, even a messenger is safer than being alone,” I say with a chuckle. Panic set in as she stumbled to her cloak, patting it down twice with trembling hands before realizing the book was missing. Taking a deep, steadying breath, Evee composed herself and stepped out into the corridor. The noise grew louder, chaotic voices merging into an unintelligible roar. As she emerged into the open, her heart sank. A mob had gathered, their anger palpable, faces twisted with rage and betrayal. At the forefront stood Justina, gripping the book high above her head like a trophy. By their reactions, it was clear they had some idea of the book’s contents.
