I accepted the dagger with a nod of approval, tucking it away securely. "In addition," Maxwell continued, presenting me with a silver sword, "I've had this crafted for you. Silver, lethal to vampires and wolves, but harmless to you, Your Highness. It may prove invaluable within the enemy's stronghold." I inspected the blade, a smirk tugging at the corners of my lips. "A thoughtful gesture," I acknowledged, feeling the weight of power in my grasp. "It will serve its purpose well." With a swift motion, I tested the sword's balance, nodding in satisfaction. "Let us proceed," I declared, my tone firm and commanding. "The battle has just begun".

I asked and pointed to the weapons. I did a double take when I saw the shining sword I was pointing at. Its hilt was made of gold and there were jewels embedded in it. I looked at the other weapons next to it and found that the entire section was filled with jewelled daggers, swords and sabres. Samurai swords, Katanas and even dual broadswords lined up on the shelf. Some of them looked so ancient that I was certain that their price would make me faint. Some of the swords were emanating a faint glow, and I realised that they were spelled weapons. I wondered what exactly they could do...

“What’s so funny?” The Blade Sect’s Elder was baffled by James’ sudden laughter. “Nothing.” James calmed down and said earnestly, “I just think it’s a great honor to compete with a great swordsman like you. After you, Sir.” James made a gesture toward the arena. The elder headed to the arena’s center. James followed behind him. The two stood inside the arena and stared at each other. A golden light flashed in the hand of the Blade Sect’s Elder and materialized into a long, golden sword. The sword’s blade was a bright gold and glowed with a golden light.

I stepped forward, my pulse quickening as I realized where that gleam came from. The MirrorBlade. I had hidden it in my safe, buried behind layers of wards and locks. But now, the safe itself seemed to glow faintly, a strange brightness spilling from the narrow crack as I opened it. The blade’s edge glowed fiercely, and strangely the light was angled in a precise direction, pointing north. Even in the dim of the study, the glow was unwavering, unnatural. I lifted it carefully. The moment I took it out of the safe, the faint glow intensified, forcing me to narrow my eyes. Amusement stirred despite the tension.

The blade twirled smoothly in his hand so he could clench the handle, letting the tip point downward. “That’s a shame. Oh, well. Bet I can fetch a good price for your hide, bein’ a verndari and all that.” He grinned, revealing a set of two unnaturally sharp golden caps on his incisors. “I bet you I could get a real good price for her, period.
