Larson hopped down after her, tugging at the sleeve of his crisp blue shirt as he scanned the crowd. “Well,” he murmured, “welcome to the land of spoiled royals and entitled nobles.” Layla gave him a look. “Says the noble-born Alpha’s second-in-command.” “That’s different,” Larson grinned, “I’m charming.” They made their way toward the entrance, blending in with the other arriving students. The tall oak doors swung open to reveal the academy’s great hall—an expanse of vaulted ceilings painted with constellations, tall windows spilling sunlight onto checkered floors. Gilded chandeliers floated overhead, their light refracting against the polished marble.

She gave Sylvia an uncomfortable look and then shrugged her shoulders. "Mom didn't know and she found out earlier today and we fought." Sylvia was surprised. She placed her hand on Sonya's shoulder and gave her a small smile. "How long have you been skipping these classes?" "For a month now." "A month?! Then what were you doing when she thought you were at those classes?" She sighed again and suddenly grabbed Sylvia's wine glass and took a few huge gulps. "I go to my other classes okay? I've been going to this special academy where we get to learn how to create our jewelleries and make our brands and it's going well for me right now."

Now the walls proudly displayed the same shade of blue that characterized the original unit of the Shield Academy, contrasting beautifully with the black mats that covered nearly the entire expanse of the polished concrete floor. The golden light of the Saturday morning filtered through the large hinged windows, drawing luminous rectangles that seemed to map out territories of possibility. At the back of the hall, painted with strong, precise strokes, was the Shield Academy logo: a stylized crest protecting an incandescent flame—a symbol that had become synonymous with hope in their original community.

The morning sun soared above the faint umber-stained skyline East of Golden Lake and its pleasant warmth sprinkled over the students—who were going about their morning businesses, and the dewed meadows, pastures and buildings, too. That monday morning wasn't as glorious as the ones the students had grown accustomed to over the weeks but still, it was more magnificent than average morns around the world and that was enough. And I'd have loved to lie and say that the look did not splitter my heart into pieces because even after four years of being at the receiving end of his taunts along with every other student of the school, I still haven't gotten used to it.
