I felt my veins burn, my capillaries bursting under the pressure of the Golden influx, but I didn't let go. ​The effect was not an explosion. It was a transformation.

“It’s here.” ​“The Shadow Weaver,” I said, the ancient prophecy finally taking shape. ​The dark figure looked at Winnie and smiled, a cold, empty expression. “Sister,” it whispered, the voice echoing through the crypt. “The alignment is here. The world is tired of the sun. It is time for the long night.” ​Winnie looked at the dark reflection, then at Thorne and me. The patterns on her arms began to glow with a blinding, golden light, but for the first time, I saw a thread of violet begin to weave its way through the gold.

As the lights dispersed, the thief returned to his human form with Olivia’s emblem glowing on his chest. “What did you do to me?” Olivia reached out her hand as her silver Maiden pulled Grave hart flat to the ground. “Binding hex,” Olivia said.” As long as my symbol is on you, you can’t go all berserk on me,”

Selene’s breath caught as her vision blurred—blinding gold blooming at the edge of her sight. Theoden gasped, the fire on his skin rising, flickering uncontrollably. “Selene, I—” “I know.” Their wolves howled—not aloud, not in their throats, but in their spirits. Golden light and golden fire burst from Selene and Theoden, filling the clearing, blinding everyone—friend and foe alike. The rogues screamed. The warriors shielded their eyes. The trees trembled. The door pulsed in rhythm with their bodies, stronger than ever before.

’ She answers, and I smile. ‘Thank you.’ I say and look at my phone, and see it’s 8 AM in the morning. I wonder if Nora is awake, and I search for her mind, but I find her still sleeping. ‘Dawn is nicer than I. She waits for Nora to wake up.’ Midnight, tell me. ‘Dawn? Is that her wolf?’ I ask. ‘Yes, and my twin.’ Midnight says. ‘Twin? But I thought there had never been twin girls before.’ I answer.

The stillness of morning should have brought peace. But the wind tasted different metallic, electric, like the world itself was bracing for something it couldn't name.
