I glared at the book till I was on my bed and the book never opened - maybe it is my illusion. I ducked myself into the sheets and this time I could hear the flipping of a book - The book. I was scared as hell because when I was still young, I read a lot of horror stories without the consent of my mother, Nahigra. I stared until the last flip of a page. Gradually and slowly as I can, I left my bed to see what my eyesight can't comprehend. To my surprise, it was still that same chapter and a phrase written in bold, "WHEN EVERYTHING GOES SOUTH, DO NOT GO NUT?"

What in the hell was really going on? "Take this" she boomed, shoving into my hands our family grimoire, I read the ancient writings on it 'The book of dark shadows'. Another uproar erupted from outside making me tremble in fear, as I clung tightly to the book I held in my arms, in desperate search for any form of comfort it could provide me with.

Scarlet's POV I gaps so hard that my lungs hurt when I hear the strange voice speaking from the book. I step back in shock as I clutch my hands around the end of the wall, breathing heavily in fear. The sound of the voice stir up some reaction that my body automatically activates it's flight survival mode. When I got to the hidden library, I scanned through the shelves and took three books that were about history and ancient creators, put them in my bag and headed for the door. But just as I was about to place my hand on the knob, a crash echoed through the room. My heart leaped into my stomach the same time i turned around and the sight i saw before me made mew freeze to my bones./ It took everything, every single thing in me, to not scream and yell…perhaps it was because I did not want to draw unnecessary attention from outside, or maybe I was just too scared to move a muscle let alone screaming. I stayed with Adley in her small living room, watching horror movies about creatures that didn’t exist in this world, until darkness smothered the outside world, peeking in through the sheer curtains that made their living room feel all too exposed. “Zombies always give me the creeps.” Adley shuddered, “There’s something so scary about coming back from the dead, having your face and limbs rot like that. Another crash echoed from somewhere deeper in the stacks. Like something knocking over a small pile of books. I held my breath. Elias stopped moving.

He told me there was a book in his office that had the safe hidden inside. The book was about ghost towns, so he doubted Zane would have found it. That is when I learned that Zane was afraid of ghosts. At first, I thought it was funny, that Zane feared something that wasn’t real until I thought about it. If werewolves and other creatures were real, maybe ghosts were too. Thinking that, a chill ran down my spine, causing me to shiver. It wasn’t funny after all, because if ghosts were real, I would be afraid too.

“No, you didn’t. I remember, and I appreciate that. But… you must know that with the lights on, even this small lamp, you’ll be able to see how hideous I truly am.” She’s shaking her head as if she can’t believe it, so I feel compelled to describe myself. “Have you ever read those children’s books, meant to horrify young people not to go into the woods at night, that talk about werewolves?” “Yes.” She sits up straight in her chair, leaning in.

After two days of high temperatures and intense boredom, he remembered the three books. Sam pulled out the one with the Mummy on the cover, because it looked the most innocuous. It was entitled the Ninth Pan Book of Horror Stories. He wasn’t the least bit prepared for what he found inside. The first three stories involved emasculation, murder and burning at the stake. In his fevered state Sam felt he was not only watching the characters’ suffering, he was experiencing it along with them. He flung the book at the wall and then hid it again, wishing he could burn it like Jinnot, the young girl in the third story who was burned alive.
