“You’re magic, you know that?” She tilted her head. “Magic?” “Yeah,” I said quietly. “You always know how to pull me out of a bad headspace. Even when I don’t realize I need it.” She smiled, then bumped my knee with hers. “That’s what best friends are for, right?” I looked at her a beat too long. Best friends, she said. But the way my chest tightened… it was something else. I didn’t say it out loud, but in that moment, I knew:

“Just come.” I hung up and put the phone face down. It didn’t stay quiet, another buzz came in. Damien. “You can still stop this.” I stared at it and dropped my phone, I didn’t answer. Then another one. “If Vale keeps you there, I will make sure every board member knows what kind of man he is.” I typed before I could talk myself out of it. “You were thrusting in on my best friend in our matrimonial bed. Don’t talk to me about what kind of man anybody is.”

I hope either way you're okay. Okay, not in the sense that you have to. You have to tell people that you are, or you feel you just have to. I mean okay in the terms that you actually are. I don’t really have many things anyway’’. in fifteen minutes, I had finished. Now how can I say goodbye to my best friend? I can’t even go upstairs and interrupt the discussion that he has with his mate.
