Hard to believe I’m days away from popping. My stomach is stretched far too much, my back aches, the fake contractions have me freaking out, and my feet are like balloons. I’m ready for the Little Nightmare to come out. The nickname Little Nightmare seems to be sticking. It’s slightly fitting as her father is a demigod of death and her mothers is a lycan. These are definitely two things that would give normal people nightmares, and Everly is a combination of those things. We decided to call her Ever as a cute nickname and Little Nightmare as her nickname for when she is driving us crazy.

You know my name—Nicole.” He turned his head slightly, his grin just infuriating enough to make my fingers twitch. “Why? Does it make your heart flutter when I call you names?” I scoffed. “Please. Shorty” he smirked. “Oh, really?” I leaned back, crossing my arms. “Then I guess I’ll call you Ego head from now on. That’s for when you talk too much. And Hockman…for when you call me by my surname.”

Louis shouted as if I were just his nanny. "Missy!" exclaimed Sid in a baby voice. "Yanny!" Giles shouted while waving his hands. "Tardy!" Byron, called with his manly voice. I heard their voices calling out to me, but I didn't turn around. Argh, didn't I tell them not to talk to me or ignore me when we were in school? Those cretins are attempting to ruin my high school experience. And why are they calling me different names?! I have only one name, and that is Maxine! Maxine Wards! Where do they find such names as Wendy, Tardy, Missy, and Yanny? And those names they're calling me always end with the letter "Y."

"I was thinking... maybe something simpler. Maybe just... 'H'?” My inner wolf let out a dramatic sigh. 'H'? Really, Zara? 'H'? That's the best you've got? We could have gone with 'Sparky ted', or 'Golden hottie', or even 'Sunshine'! 'H' sounds like a letter grade, not a nickname. What are we, in some old-fashioned novel?'

“Vanni is a pretty name.” “It stands for Travanni. My mother had a thing for weird names. I hate it. All my life I’ve just gone by Vanni.” She sipped her tea, trying not to babble. She did that when she was nervous and speaking to a New Species made her very much so. “My poor sister got stuck with Mortimia. She usually refuses to tell people her full name and just goes by Mia. We are certain that my mom was obsessed with vampires.” He appeared a little confused. “I don’t understand.”

She opened it slowly, flipping through until she found the page she’d marked. “Look at the names,” she said, turning the book so I could see clearly. “Every witch that was either exiled or executed had a middle name starting with ‘Gaz’—Gazana, Gazriel, Gazintha. The pattern repeats itself. And guess what Gazelle’s full name is?” “Don’t tell me…” I muttered, already connecting the dots in my mind. “Gazelle,” she said. “Full name: Gazelle Amora Black.”

In a moment of defiance, I could not help but muster the courage to speak up. " Bitch," I murmured under my breath, my voice slightly audible. The name suited her perfectly—a symbol of her cruelty and mean-spirited nature. While she may have relished in causing trouble, I was determined not to let her actions define me. Okay, it’s officially a waste to fear John. “That’s actually kinda cute,” John looks sour. “Shrimp then?” “Overused,” I reply. “Try harder,” “Short stuff?” Smiling, I shake my head. “All those nicknames are cute and kinda fitting since I’m short,” “How about Marina the great?” Embarrassment finds my cheek, and I freeze, eyes caught on the angel who studies me briefly before his lips turn grim.

I sighed and turned away from them. "They named him Gedeon." (G-de-in) I looked over at her. She still spun the apple in her hands till we passed the giraffes and one of them happily took it from her. Wrapping its long bluish tongue around her hand. "What does that mean?" I muttered while we walked downstairs. Brett and his gaggle worked on the girls' breakfast. "Destroyer." She whispered with a roll of her eyes. Tsk. What is with these people and naming these wolves after horrible things? Tormentor and now Destroyer? Hell, the tiger's name is Cuddles! I disliked that.
