I nodded again, though my chest still felt tight, like I was carrying the weight of something far too big for my shoulders.
“I’ll see you later,” Graham said, tucking his phone away. With that, he turned and strode down the hall, his usual decisive stride eating up the ground beneath him.
The silence that followed was deafening.
I stood there for a long moment, just breathing. Then I bent, grabbed my bag, and slung it over my shoulder. My body ached with exhaustion, but my mind refused to slow down.
