Mile’s POV We stepped out of the library and stood across the street to wait for a cab. Graham wouldn’t stop staring at the book in my possession so I handed it over to him without uttering a word. As soon as he got it, Grayham began to open the book and then fiddle with the pages. A few moments later, there was an unsatisfactory look on his face. Then he finally turned to me. “All I can see here are lists of infectious diseases and plaques that affected the city years ago.” He looked at me. “I’m not even sure if this book will help.” He sighed.

' Hugo gestured at Graham to continue. "You don't know when to quit." Graham sneered quietly and leaned forward, putting on his most ingratiating smile. "Ms. Stanton, it's me, Graham Golden. I hope I'm not interrupting. I just want to confirm if we're—" Ivana interrupted right away, "We're what? We're nothing. I don't even know who you are! Graham, who?" The whole room heard Ivana, and the air froze solid. Hugo's men looked at Graham. Graham was stunned. His eyes were the size of saucers, and his face spelled disbelief.

I plead with him. Graham doesn't say anything as he starts the car. He looks stressed and dazed. I can't figure out what is going on with him. Maybe it's the fact that I am so hungry and thirsty. "Please, Graham, do you have something I could drink? I am so thirsty." Graham sits up and reaches into the backseat for his black metal water bottle. The one I got him with his college mascot. At first, Graham starts to take a sip. "Hey, what about me?"

I wasn’t even sure if he’d gotten everything settled with his frat brothers when he drove me to the airport in the morning. I tried to let those thoughts fade away while on my flight home. I put in my earbuds and decided to listen to one of the smutty werewolf audio books Hana has gotten me hooked on, Alpha Gray by CJ Primer, with Theo and Maddie as narrators. The book is HOT, and Theo’s voice… yeah, it makes for an enjoyable two-and-a-half-hour flight. I love how he changes his voice when speaking for each Alpha. Hana told me they’ve done the narration for the rest of the series, and I can’t wait to listen.

My voice trailed off. Graham was quiet for a moment, then started to nod. “The product stays with you as you grow.” “It’s a constant. You change—it doesn’t. Yours for life.” “Brilliant,” he praised. For some reason, his compliment made my chest warm, and I ducked my head at the strange sensation. He pushed off the table, holding out his hand. “Graham Gavin.” I took his hand, noting the firmness of his grip. “Richard VanRyan.” “I’m impressed already.”

I didn't turn my head, but my body instantly tensed, ready to rip the intruder apart. "Sir," Graham’s hushed, perfectly modulated British accent drifted into the room. I slowly turned my head. Graham stood in the doorway. He looked impeccable, as always, but the dark circles under his eyes and the grim set of his jaw betrayed the absolute, apocalyptic chaos he was currently managing. He held a glowing digital tablet in his hand. "I explicitly ordered no interruptions, Graham," I said, my voice a dark, warning whisper that promised severe consequences.

Because of his absent mind, he bumps into someone spilling coffee on the ground. “Sht!” The person hisses. Graham looks up quickly and he gasps. “Mr Aurelius, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bump into you!” Marcus laughs and shakes his head.. he hands the now empty cup off coffee to Graham. “Graham, where on earth did your mind go?” “Nowhere… I was just thinking of what food to order for Mr Statham’s dinner!” Graham replied. He can’t tell Marcus about the Anastasia thing too, else Nicklaus will know about thing which will lead to one thing…

Graham the truth. Mr. Graham stood abruptly, his expression closed off. “I think I should leave. I feel drained.” “You’ve honored my invitation, Dam,” Nico said warmly, clapping his shoulder. “And you brought along your beautiful secretary,” he added, giving me a playful grin. I forced a smile, feeling awkward. ********* The mansion was quiet when we returned. Mr. Graham’s voice broke the silence as he headed for the stairs. “Please get me a glass of warm milk,” he said, as he was about to mount the stairs. His tone was surprisingly soft.

“Wait, Graham’s a wolf? Then why is he here?” “Sure bet he is. He was one of the finest scouts we ever had. Could sniff someone out even if they were miles away. The man was a walking legend. That was, until he got into a pretty nasty brawl and had his nose torn up, at least. After that, he wanted a quieter life. So, here he is. And the irony is, he’s never been happier. Right,” she tugs my arm, “-you heard Graham. We’ve only got the place to ourselves for a few hours so, let’s shop.”
