Aiden climbs back onto my father’s bed, tugging at his sleeve. “Grandpa, do you want to see my drawing? I made it for you.” “ Of course! I would love to see it, buddy.” Aiden proudly unfolds the crumpled paper from his pocket and hands it over. My dad studies it carefully, a stick-figure family with “GRANDPA STRONG” written across the top in bright crayon letters. "Well...” Dad says, clearing his throat. “... that is about the best medicine that I have gotten all week.”

It was pretty creative of her. “This is so lovely, Natty.” I told her, smoothing out her hair. “This here is you,” she pointed to the largest fruit in the drawing. “This is Mummy, and this is me.” The three fruits representing each of us were together. She continued. “Over here is grandma Elizabeth, then here is grandma Shirley. My two grandpa's are over here.” She pointed at different fruits representing her grandparents. “Then this is Uncle Karl and this is Aunt Diamond.” I smiled, glad that she remembered her aunt and her uncle despite the rift that has been between all of us for years.
