I can feel it crawling over my skin.
A man near the center gestures sharply, his voice booming. “You crossed the eastern ridge without permission. That land is ours.”
A woman across from him snarls back, eyes flashing. “Your patrol chased the game onto our side. We followed what was already bleeding.”
“Liar.”
“Say that again.”
Several people shift, boots scraping stone. Someone growls low in their throat. My heart starts beating faster, each thud loud in my ears.
I hover at the edge, unseen for now, watching the way bodies lean forward, the way hands flex at sides. I’ve seen this before, in different places, with different faces. This is how violence starts. Not with claws, but with pride.
