Gravity is not my friend, and my stomach lifts in my body as I am temporarily weightless in the air. I take Dane down in a flying hurdle I don’t intend. Instead, I am just looking for a soft landing spot to save me from ultimate permanent disfigurement. His arms, face, and torso meet my body side on, and we become a splat-impacted, entangled mess of limbs and grunts as we topple the last small set of five steps into a rolling ball. We crash across the marble floor, somehow ending up wrapped together in the fetal position with me on top, and hit a sliding stop against the nearest pillar.

With careful precision, she shifted her body to try and bridge the gap between the bed and the wheelchair. But gravity was a cruel mistress, and her sense of balance betrayed her. Her hand slipped, and her body began to lurch. A sharp gasp slipped from her lips—a prelude to the inevitable. And then she fell. The sound of her collision with the floor—a harsh, unforgiving thud—shattered the stillness of the night.

Light unfurled across the clearing, folding reality inward like a curtain being ripped down. The sigils burst in a blinding flare. My tether screamed as the final energy tore through them. The hum changed pitch. And the pull twisted— not outward, but downward. Ronan’s stomach lurched as the floor beneath them shifted. Stone split with a deafening crack. Kiera screamed silently as gravity gave way— and the chamber opened beneath their feet, swallowing them whole.

Using her warrior’s agility, she scaled the wall, steadying herself on the narrow ledge beneath the window. What she saw inside made her blood run cold. Lucian, holding Selena close... It might put me in serious trouble if it persists. The thought of what Rex could do to me if he sees me in this state starts flooding my mind, somehow it disgusts me, especially as I imagine his fat tummy on top of me. But the strong urge makes me for a minute think it wouldn't be a bad idea to go down with him. My breathing continued racing fast, like my lungs had just been released from a grip.
