They jumped. The feeling was not like falling. It was like being pulled through a straw. The gravity power caught them. It wrapped around their bodies like a invisible blanket. The air was thick with smoke. They shot past the floors of the hospital—the baby ward, the cafeteria, the library. All of it was now broken metal and dust. They hit the bottom with a sound. The gravity power had cushioned their landing. They were in the core room. It was glowing with a toxic orange light. In the center was the gravity engine. It was spinning fast it looked like a blur of light.

I wanted to drag the False Mother out of the clouds and force her feet onto the salt. The Spire groaned. The purple crystal began to turn white, the cracks spreading like a winter frost. The Star-Wolf shrieked, her celestial fur beginning to shed in a shower of falling stars. The drain was different this time. It wasn't taking my energy. It was taking my distance. I felt my feet leave the ground. Not in a graceful ascent, but in a violent, bone-grinding pull. The Star-Wolf was trying to fly, and she was taking us with her.

He froze when he saw Lyra drifting near the ceiling. "Emma! She’s doing it again!" Félix squeaked, nearly dropping the tray. Lucas arched back against the lockers, his breath coming fast, head tilting back to give him more. His fingers dug into Ryan’s shoulders, nails biting into skin as Ryan sank lower, kneeling in front of him, tugging at his waistband with urgent, shaking hands. The towel around Ryan’s hips loosened, falling to the floor, and the sight made Lucas’s breath catch in his throat. At this point, they didn't care about being caught, every touch, every kiss was unrestrained. Lucas hands were tangled in Ryan wet hair, pulling him closer and urging him until he felt like he might break as a result of the pleasure coarse through his bones.
