“Not here?” Felix shook his head, then bent to pick up a knit of ribbon from the floor. Margaret came to see and took it from him. She crossed to the windows, turning the small cluster this way and that to gauge the colour. “Is it hers?” asked Felix as he strolled to her side. “Yes. I can’t see the colour well but I know the knot. It’s a peculiar one. I made it myself.” “So they were here.” “But where are they now?”

But for me, the architecture of the world was becoming increasingly difficult to navigate. I sat on the stone terrace one evening, watching the sun dip behind the rows of grapevines. Maya was at the edge of the field, crouched low, her hands pressed into the soil. I could feel her resonance humming—a soft, green vibration that matched the growth of the vines. “Lisa,” Toby said, stepping out with two glasses of local wine. He set them on the table and sat across from me. “We need to talk about the ‘Geometric Knot’.”

She felt her heart sink as she watched as Quentin draped his jacket over Quinn's shoulders. With a sarcastic glint in her eyes, she spun around. Gabriel was just making his way in. He had parked his car at a distance, so it took him a while to get there. Noelle reached into her canvas bag, pulled out the scarf she'd knitted for Quentin, and handed it to Gabriel. "I knitted this. It took me ten nights. If you don't mind, Mr. Kingston, I'd like you to have it!"

“Yes!! And she just gave me some to try on.” That was wrong wording. Genevieve didn’t just hand it to her. Mrs. Alden bought it, but since mining wasn’t exactly an easy and quick job, she also ordered a lot. It took months before it arrived. She probably forgot. But Heidi believed it and had to will herself not to bulge her eyes out. “I see.” “Yeah.” Toby nodded. Turning to Mrs. Alden. “I will need to leave soon. I have somewhere to be. So, be sure to give Mom your review.”

Author’s note: My last memo (on Chapter Thirty-Nine) didn’t post for some reason, so I’d like to add it here. The last two installments (Chapter Forty and Epilogue) of ‘The Butterfly Knot’ will be told from the third person to adequately cover all of my characters’ feelings, thoughts, ECT. But then I thought of the night when Conner said some Latin words and got the truck back on the road after it veered off because of the snow and wondered if I could use that spell to untie the knots. My mind was still a haze from the drugs as I thought hard about the words and finally they came to me. Whispering the words I focused on the knot and it slowly began to budge but it wasn’t enough. I pulled more power from within me speaking a little louder as I focused harder on the knot and it began to slide a little more but stopped when I heard a car door and then another come from outside. If she was right, the rope could be representational, all she would have to do was untie it and she would snap the bond between them. Viola reached for the rope and untied the knot. Gwenda stopped abruptly and looked down at where the rope previously was. She picked it up and found it loose. The knot was gone. “What… what…” She murmured as she started looking around. “If you’re where… know that this won’t work… you’d need to do a lot more than untying a rope.” Gwenda sneered as she looked around frantically, searching for whatever force had the rope undone.
