My stomach dropped. Wendigo was what hunters called a vampire starved past the point of sanity. Prolonged blood deprivation drove them feral. Their bodies deteriorated, their senses sharpened beyond control, and whatever intelligence they'd once possessed burned away. They killed without strategy and without restraint, leaving trails of corpses that risked exposing every vampire in the city. Even other vampires hunted them down. For hunters, a wendigo meant a minimum of two working in coordination. Going in alone was a death sentence.

I left the volume that I was reading and came over and took a look. “Is that it?” I asked, I had never seen it before, only Damon had. “Yes,” he nodded and tapped his finger on the picture of the monster. I looked at the name – it was called a Wendigo! “A wendigo,” I muttered. “That’s the fucker…” he said. “What’s this down here?” I pointed to the description printed at the bottom, and read. “Wendigo are dead cursed wolves, their souls are trapped in their body and they are vengeful. The curse can only be broken by the Blood of a Goddess.”

More astonishingly, the skeleton possessed the strength of a half-immortal. This skeleton was Wendigo, the former ruler of the fierce beasts. After its death, it had been molded into a puppet by the Ancestora, who imbued the soul within the skeletal frame. Hidden in the black mist, Wendigo eyed Severin with intrigue. "You're new," he remarked, "but you're as good as dead when you arrived here. I shall be happy to take your life!" With a sneer, the black mist around Wendigo surged forward like a tidal wave, crashing relentlessly towards Severin and his companions. What were they doing here? And then came the smell, the smell of death permeating through the air, it was the foul stench of their rotting mottled bodies. Their sharp claws stretched out and their red beady eyes were fixated on the Lycans below. These were Wendigos, also known as creatures of death. They attacked in a herd, their strength lying in numbers. We halted in our tracks as they screeched and circled all over us. My heart uncontrollably thudded in my chest and a desire to protect Melsine took over.

Marisol’s POV The forest went silent. No birds, no insects, no wind just oppressive, unnatural quiet. “Everyone behind me,” Kael ordered, his wolf form bristling. “Now.” We clustered together Marion’s fighters, Vera, Gray, Dr. Rhodes, and me at the center. “What are they?” I whispered. “Wendigos. Ancient curse-born creatures that feed on supernatural essence.” Dr. Rhodes’s voice shook. “They were sealed away centuries ago.”

To think even the human gods are real. “There are a bunch of gods, Lia” she smiles, “werewolves are just too isolated from the rest of the world and too self-centered to care about the others” “Even concepts like: The Beast and The Blessed, are not solely Wolf concepts” she continues. “They aren't? Humans have a beast?” I ask, knowing full well I just found out humans have their own Blessed. “They do, that's the Wendigo” she says, “a human corrupted by power and consumes other humans”

I didn't go in this time, but I decided to call the creature out. "Gary? Is that you boy?" I called, my instinct told me he was there and he was the creature causing all these disappearances. I stood there for a few minutes, shotgun in hand ready to aim at him in case he attacked. I could hear some growls, and I was prepared. The Wendigo came out of the cave and walked slowly towards me. His eyes were Scarlet red and his mouth was drooling and I could see blood all over his body. "Gary? If that is you in there, please listen to me. If you are the one kidnapping all these kids and eating them, tell me" I said, knowing he can't even speak and he won't tell me.

The van carrying Talan overturns as Talan comes back to life to continue his rampage. Meanwhile, after becoming increasingly ill, Gavin investigates the Gwynek residence and ends up killing Mrs. Gwynek after coming to realize that he now has the same affliction as Talan. Gavin shaves off all of his body hair as he begins giving in to his new werewolf alter ego. In the commotion at the crash site, Talan kills Eric. Talan moves to attack Kate next, but Gavin arrives to battle the other werewolf. The fight ends when Gavin strangles Talan, presumably killing him.
