I pulled my phone out of my bag, scanned the payment code, and paid exactly nine dollars. Once the confirmation came through, I put my phone away and looked up at him. "You love keeping score, don't you?" I said. "Let's make sure it's perfectly balanced, then. After tonight, you and I are completely square." Presley clearly hadn't seen it coming. He sat there, completely frozen. The smile vanished from Vivienne's face, her expression going a little stiff. I didn't say another word. I picked up my bag, stood up, and walked out.

Penny called sweetly, “more tissue.” I handed her another one. I always had them ready. “It’s not her fault she looks like this,” Penny said, smiling at the maids. She turned to me with that fake sugar-glazed expression. “Pimples. Braces. Glasses.” She sighed like she was listing a tragedy. “All the signs of an ugly girl,” she finished. She blew her nose loudly. The sound was thick and wet, and the tissue drooped from the weight of it. For someone who looked like a magazine cover, she always had stuff leaking out of her.

I whispered, my fingers wiping the little remnants of tears on her cheeks. "After my shift, we'll go get some strawberry ice cream and this time, we'll get the triple decker flavor," I continued as heard her giggle. "Yay!" She jumped for joy, my heart warming to the sight of her smiling again. "Will Daddy come along?" My insides turned solid as her words echoed against the inner walls of my ears. Shrugging off her question, I pretended not to hear as I ran my fingers over the pile of documents on Penny's table. "Come Ivy, I have to show you a cool new gadget I have," Penny, who noticed my urgent need for a distraction, beamed.

Facing the shouts from the Styre Team, the Penny Team flaunted their new player proudly. "Franco, you want us to lose? I'm afraid it's a bit difficult. By the way, I forgot to tell you guys. The striker on our side today is Stanley. Since you guys are so confident, how about we make a bet?" Franco asked in a cold voice, "Bet on what?" The Penny Team shouted arrogantly, "Whoever loses will post on the other party's Bulletin Board System admitting defeat and saying they are inferior to the other party.

" I looked up at Bella. She wasn't wrong. I did want her to give me money when I was younger. They always gave Hannah so much money, and they would also bring her to the grocery store where she bought all types of snacks and toys. I had looked at my own empty hands before mustering my courage and asking Bella, "Where's my money, Mom?" I would have been happy with even ten dollars.

The girl on the toilet looked at me, I nodded. "Is this her?" the girl asked. "Yeah," Penny said, then to me, "do you have the money or what?" "No, I couldn't get enough," I explained in a very soft voice. Penny smiled, and I think she was happy I was unprepared to pay her.

"Didn't see you at school today. How come?" I knew he was most likely just making conversation. Or maybe I just hovered around him too much and it was surprising I'd go a day without seeing him. Either way, I panicked before responding. "Penny and I were busy." He stared at me deeply but I was too distracted by the awkward silence and the noise of the club to notice how his eyes sparkled. "You too are no fun," came Penny's voice. "Let's take shots. The first person to lose it owes the winner twenty bucks."

None of the others noticed as the battle intensified on the ground. Penny brought her mind back to the game. She barreled towards one golem. Leaping into the air, she came down with all the force she could muster. She threw it off its feet. The golem skidded across the ground. Cold air came from her nostrils as she huffed out a breath.

He curled my fingers around the coins. “You’ll never run out of pennies again,” he told me, before turning around and walking away. I stared after him for a moment, before opening my fingers. My heart melted. I ripped the corner of the roll of pennies, so I could take one out. I lifted it to my mouth, kissed it and flipped it into the fountain. ‘I wish that I have a good day today.’ Carson nudged my hand and I patted his head. “I’m going in there. Are you gonna come with me?”

As I went to sit down, Penny suddenly faced me. " Just look at your supposed girlfriend's sister. Today must've been a good day for her not to look like she came out of a dumpster as usual. No matter what she tries to do, she's still a troll" Penny said with an eye roll and her two minions behind her laughed.
