Wanda called out loudly. All the witches hurriedly started preparing for the ritual. They draw a huge Pentagram in the middle of their town. They placed fresh heads of human sacrifices, which were arranged just for this purpose. Blood was splattered all around, making the pentagram shine blood red. Wanda arrived then, wearing a black robe. She walked into the center of the Pentagram. The other witches stood around the drawings, just outside the freshly severed heads. “What did Willam tell you child?” Ivy tilted her head. “Well that we originated from the isles where the witch trails were and that we are all witches.” Freda hummed in response a small smirk on her lips. “That is all is true, open that trunk.” Ivy’s gaze settles on the large leather trunk stained in a red dye. The metal detailing in a gold colour, faded and scuffed. It had clearly been around for a long time. Collecting dust passed on from generations.

Meredith sighed and followed them reluctantly. Halloween celebrations were in full bloom in Connecticut. Houses were decorated with assortment of decorations. Children in colourful costumes, supervised by adults had started coming out of the houses. The three girls watched as a group of teenagers, all of them clad in Halloween costumes emerged from a link-road. They were laughing and chatting about going to a party. One of the girls who was in a witch costume smiled at the three of them. “Nice mask,” she said to Jill. “It looks like a second skin.”

“Good job princess.” I looked around seeing others walking into the woods. One man, a tall slim man dressed all in a black robe was burning something in the fire. The smell seemed to be white. I don’t know why white was the word that first came to me, maybe pure. I looked up at Nikko, “Is he a witch?” Nikko looked down at me, “a warlock maybe. I don’t think he would take kindly to you calling him a witch.” He arched his brow, “why Samantha are you a witch?”

Stone, her mate, stood steadfastly by her side, his posture rigid and ever-vigilant, acting as an impenetrable shield for his new family. Ms. Polly stepped forward from the front of the crowd, her presence commanding an immediate, absolute silence. The elder witch wore a flowing gown of deep violet, her silver hair woven with tiny, glowing crystals that pulsed with an ethereal, ancient light. In her hands, she carried the sacred pack basin, filled with shimmering, silver-infused water that reflected the light of the April moon shining through the high glass ceiling.

One of the witches shouted fearfully, ”This is definitely the doing of Seniola!, she will kill us all! We have to……aargh….…aargh” she clutched her neck as she fell down on her knees. Her face contorted in extreme agony, as she stared straight at the python-headed staff pointed at her. Instantly, she started to decay with fat dark maggots crawling all over her, soon nothing was left of her but her dark, still-beating heart. The bearded elder witch motioned to the beating heart on the floor and one of the witches hurriedly picked it up and put it into an earthenware vessel.

As I stepped closer to get a better look, my eyes widened at the thousands of pale, flickering lights swirling in the vortex. They were souls. I didn’t know where they came from or whose they were, but their silent screams seemed to echo in my mind. I took a sharp step back, my breath hitching. The dark energy coming off that pit felt like a heavy, cold weight pressing against my chest, making it hard to draw air. Surrounding the pit were the witches. They stood like statues, draped in tattered black robes, their voices rising in a dissonant, rhythmic chant.
