“You’re already halfway in, Henry.” Grinning, Henry stepped inside. “Halloween’s coming up on October thirty-first. They announced the downtown festival on TV. It’s going to be big this year with costumes, music, and lights. I really want to go, especially since we missed it two years ago. You two should come with me.” He paused, then said, “Pleeease?” dragging the word with a grin. Asher lifted a brow, his voice teasing. “You came all the way here just to tell us that?”

It lasted approximately six minutes before the boys got bored and demanded something scarier. “No horror,” I said firmly. “Just a little spooky,” Eddie begged. I caved and chose The Haunted Lighthouse, a mildly eerie kids’ movie with a ghost dog and a friendly skeleton. Halfway through, Mr. Speedy mysteriously vanished. “Where’s my turtle?” Oliver wailed. Chaos erupted. Pillows flew. Flashlights beamed under furniture. Claire nearly fell off the couch laughing. After ten minutes, we found Mr. Speedy under the coffee table, wedged behind a stack of comic books, casually eating a gummy worm.

I had been doing it so long for Halloween that at this point, it was sort of a ritual. I settled in front of the TV, ready to drown my sorrows in cheesy Halloween movies and a mountain of candy. The familiar comfort of old slasher films seemed like the perfect escape. Just as the opening credits of an old slasher film started to roll, the doorbell rang. I groaned, dragging myself off the couch to answer it. Sweat trickled down his face as the rattling stopped. Eliseo waited, but there was no sound. He placed both hands on the door carefully and listened. He couldn’t hear anything. With a deep breath, he unlocked the door and opened it very slowly. Halloween Night, 1992 The lights were bright in this neighborhood, and the decorations were amazing. One house went all out with the decorating. Classic horror icons stood in the yard along with a large pumpkin glowing behind them for an eerie effect. A picture of a black cat covered the entire front door. Eliseo stopped to admire the decorations. He wished he had a camera right now.

The older man nodded slightly. “Get them here.” Toad demanded before moving on to other business. The meeting was coming to an end when there was a knock on the door. After he bellowed for the prospect to open the door, a confused face appeared. “The best way I can describe this, Halloween is here with Pagan’s daughter asking for Dino.” “Halloween is a good description.” Dino grinned as Gremlin and Rocky chuckled. “Show Halloween in.” Toad ordered. The prospect stepped back and motioned for someone to enter. Shiloh stepped in holding Alyssa’s hand. She let go and ran over to her dad. Pagan pulled her into his lap and kissed the top of her head.

The popular multiday event would have contestants come up with creative pumpkin displays which they could pose before they met the judges on the main 'Oktoberfest' event. "Still not into it, huh?" Matt spoke after noticing Jake's head shake a little in disapproval. "I donno about you, man," Gabriel added, referring to Jake, "but I know this year's Halloween will be super awesome!" Jake's mind drifted off for a moment as his Halloween-bedazzled friends went on chattering about the event and that's when he noticed a hooded figure brush past him. The weird thing was that Jake felt an eerie feeling the same moment that figure moved past. Stopping, Jake turned instinctively.
