“You old hag, you are unbelievable.” She stood up, gathered herself, and looked outside the window. She froze on her feet as she spotted the familiar face at the edge of the forest. Her heart skipped a beat, she wanted to run towards the now blonde girl with red eyes, but she controlled herself and remained frozen still. She was now the Witch of Neverwhere. “Old hag, you knew didn’t you?”, she whispered to herself as she watched Selina, her sister, and the two brothers coming towards the small house.

The girl behind the counter was somebody that I had never seen in town before, at least, not in all of the times I’d come to the coffee shop to pick up my parents’ and my sister’s orders. “Hi.” She grinned at me. I smiled back at her. “I’ve only been gone a year, and I already see new faces. I’m Helen.” She pointed at her name tag. “Lisa. Nice to meet you.” “Nice to meet you, as well.” I frowned. Her scent was off. She didn’t smell like a werewolf. “Have you recently married into the pack?” I asked. A horrified look crossed Lisa’s face, and she put a finger to her lips, beckoning me to lean over. She whispered in my ear, “Don’t ask questions about my past. I’m a witch, and I’m hiding.”

Both parents torturers, monsters… A light flickered down the hallway drawing her attention. The bulb struggling under the new energy source, she decided, narrowing her eyes. It was not a good sign. The witches were working hard to maintain the spell that powered the town, and Havermouth had accepted the odd colored lights and occasional disruption without complaint, just relieved to have the niceties of lights and heating returned - but as use increased, the spell demanded more from those sustaining it.

Neva. I surfaced from the stone slowly. Stood in the dead garden in the dusk with the carved piece of rock warm in my palm and a name sitting in my chest that had not been there ten minutes ago and already felt like it had been there a long time. Neva. The third witch. Older than Vael. Taken before my mother was born. The one the Architect had been told was dead and had chosen to believe because the alternative required harder questions. Not dead. Northwest. Far. And apparently capable of leaving carved stones in locked gardens and unsigned letters in locked rooms and a rose bud that had not been there this morning.

I glanced at both of them — Kent tense and evasive, Holly hollowed out and dazed — then began explaining calmly. “Today was Halloween. The kindergarten planned a trip to the amusement park. Our class unanimously chose to visit the haunted house, and all the parents agreed beforehand. “This morning, Tommy did request leave, saying he couldn’t come. But in the afternoon, Mr. Spark brought him to the kindergarten, saying he had a date and it wasn’t convenient to bring Tommy along.” The moment I said that, Kent’s shoulders jerked and he lowered his head in panic. Beside him, Holly looked up in utter disbelief.

When you start using magic for ill intentions you can become a dark witch or wizard and it’s very hard to turn back. I told her leaving to meet Aren outside. Our hacker and computer operator found information about others easily. "What did you find?" I asked. "She's kinda a rogue, but not really." Aren replied. "Explain." I said. "She was the daughter of the former beta of the Crescent pack, her pack was overthrown and they had a new alpha named Alpha Rick, the alpha that has been really disturbing at times to us." He said and I swallowed, wondering what he did to her.

They look at each other and for the third freaking time, burst out laughing. *********************** Sarah steps into the hall and everyone stops talking, you can almost hear a pin drop. It's as silent as a graveyard. The occupants all turn to look at her. They're all in a circle, about two hundred of them, witches, so you can imagine how big the hall and circle is. Katrina, who came with her, comes to stand beside her. "The Witch Supreme comes to bestow her greetings. Here ye her!" She yells in a voice that rings in the hall and comes as a shock to Sarah.

“We need to call out this name three times.” “Give me.” Kara grabbed the card and gazed at the instruction. Raulwatched her in silence. He allowed her to do the honors and she read out the name three times. Before she would finish calling out the third name, the witch appeared. The witch made a loud entrance with darkness, thunder, and lightning in the mayor’s room. Tom and the governor watched calmly; they did not utter a word. “Welcome… thank you for coming.” Kara greeted her. The witch headed straight to where Hayley laid and touched her gently on the palm. “She’s out cold.”

Destiny works in strange ways, the witches and the wolves have been enemies for a long time, neither cross each other's boundaries and it is highly forbidden to ever mate with each other. Over the years, witches have been mated to wolves, but once the council finds out, they cast a spell to sever the bond immediately. The spell works, but the victim's life changes completely and he or she becomes an outcast, the spell also weakens his or her original powers causing such a person to become weak.
