She moved forward, a phantom in the gloom, until she saw him.
He was massive, half-shifted, trapped in the brutal liminal space between man and wolf. Powerful, haunch-like legs were braced against the forest floor, and his torso, broad and layered with muscle, was covered in a dark cascade of fur. His hands were brutal things, tipped with claws that could shred oak, but his face was still largely human, twisted in a snarl that showed elongated canines. His eyes, a burning, molten gold, found hers in the darkness.
