Their eyes met across the ice. Her stomach tightened. He glided toward the barrier slowly, removing his helmet as he approached. Damp strands of his dark hair clung to his forehead, and his breathing was slightly uneven, but his gaze remained steady. “You’re still here,” he said, resting his gloved hands on the barrier. “I’m working,” she replied evenly.

"Come with me. I have something to discuss with you." Her firm demeanor made Hansel frown, but he eventually followed her. Once in the study, Hansel sat down and poured himself a glass of water, sipping slowly and paying no mind to Evelyn's displeased expression. "The baby is yours; can't you show a little concern?" Evelyn snapped, casting a sharp glance his way. She knew her son's personality all too well. He had a perfect facade that deceived others, but at his core, he was as cold as ice. He was someone who'd wish a long life unto his beloved and an instant death unto his foe.

“I think they’re planning something.” My eyes narrowed on them. Hans’s white skin gleamed, ethereal, in the clouded sunlight reflected off the mounds of snow piled up against the fence. His long hair whipped back and forth behind him as he dodged his sister’s blows; when he turned away, they appeared identical, their long, light brown hair free and blowing in a breeze of their own creation as they ducked and darted and dove. I was just glad I couldn’t see their matching amber eyes. There was something unearthly about them, something that made my gut clench and my heart fearful.

She was about to say something to Kiran, but Kiran said, “The son of the Marsh family is the one kicking you. It has nothing to do with us.” The corner of Hans’s lips twitched. He was not stupid. He knew that Kiran asked him to do this. “Plus, you stole his woman and threw her into the sea to feed the sharks. Have you ever considered his feelings?” Kiran’s words added fuel to the fire.
