Memories of me and Ethan sprawled on my bed or my bedroom floor reading books together, guessing each other’s Hogwarts house. It was Friday afternoon. As the classes were over before noon, I had called Jake over to help me pack all my stuff for the move. Anya would have helped, but she was in her office and had called in to make sure Jake and Andrew were behaving. “Is that Harry Potter?!” Andrew exclaimed, rushing into my room and leaning down to see the books with his big brown eyes. I grinned at him and let him see the books. “My mom gifted it to me when I was ten.”

The Little Mermaid popped out at me, as did The Emperor's New Clothes, but I thought maybe a story that people are foolish in public wouldn’t be the best choice. Then I looked around some more and picked up Floca’s Moonshot: The Flight of Apollo 11, Lewis’s The Wolf, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Dahl’s Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and a few others. I paused at the Harry Potter series, but while the girls were old enough, being werewolves, for the story, I knew the sizes of the books would put them off. Next year, I thought. They’d have handled textbooks by then and wouldn’t be so rapidly opposed to books an inch thick or more.

Trisha heard Mrs Perry complain as she glided through shelves teemed with ages-old books before she could be pulled into hours-long conversation with the old lady. She picked up a book from a dilapidated shelf, blew off the dust that had found solace on it's leather covering over the years, and squinted— because of the poor illumination, to see the books name. ‘Wizards Can Do More’ by one of the greatest wizards ever, LP Travis. I learned to love stories while still at the orphanage, as they always soothed my fears. I start looking for something interesting to read and I find the book Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I always wanted to read this book. I go to the small sofa that is located in the center of the library and sit down. I won't even say how the decoration is here, because everyone already knows that everything is in golden tones. It's just enough now that their underpants are golden. I laugh when imagining the daring of the five boys. Would they be that bold?

"We will go to book shopping." "My book," I whispered. "I got it online. It wasn't available in India yet. I got it shipped from the UK with author's signature." "I will order. Don't cry." Tears came to my eyes at seeing the condition of my book. "Bookworm, calm down. I will buy you a book set. I will buy any book you say. I will buy harry potter themed things. You wanted those book subscriptions from Canada, right? I will get them. Just don't cry."

He kisses my forehead before making his way into the bathroom. “I’ll leave the door open in case you need anything” He starts the water, telling me to put something on the TV. I get under his covers, grabbing the book on his night table. Harry Potter, an interesting pick for him. I open it up to the first page, starting the book over again for the hundredth time. Daniel’s shower is quick, yet I find myself struggling to keep my eyes open. It’s only 10:00 but I hardly got any sleep last night. I know Daniel didn’t either.

I pushed it open and slipped inside. The room was surprisingly small: a bed, a desk, a wardrobe, and a single window overlooking the moonlit forest. On the desk lay a leather-bound book—a journal. My hands trembled as I picked it up. The pages were aged and yellowed, filled with handwriting that shifted from neat to frantic, detailing dates, names, and places. Then, I discovered it. A drawing. A young girl, perhaps seven or eight, with dark hair, dark eyes, and a solemn expression. Beneath it, a name: Ella.

When my shift ended, I found myself walking toward the corner table where Kael sat, his laptop closed now, a book in his hands.
