But it’s pretty, isn’t it?” He grinned and took it, turning it over in his fingers. “Wow, this is…” His eyes widened. “Wait. Ellie, I… I c-can’t…” His words suddenly started to slur as if just touching the plant made his tongue turn thick in his mouth. Before I could catch him, he began to convulse, eyes rolling back. The leaf slipped from his fingers, and he went down like a sack of bricks.

When mixed with certain ingredients in the right proportions, stink bug leaves could temporarily paralyze muscles, making the victim unable to move. But the effect didn’t last long, if she didn’t act fast, the moose would get back on its feet and escape.
