(Harper’s POV) “I’m sorry, what now?” I stared at Harry, dumbfounded. He flicked through some more pages of the book and then turned it to face me. I apprehensively looked down at the book. The page was titled “Bloodline” and there was a picture of a wicked-looking blade down one side. The writing was a little faded and handwritten, but despite all that, it felt so familiar and I could read it, like it was something I had read a thousand times before.

Marked with symbols I didn’t fully understand. I pulled it out. Carefully. Opened it. The pages were filled with text. Dense. Layered. But one section— One section stood out. A heading. Clear. Deliberate. *Breaking the Curse.* My heart began to race. My fingers moved faster now. Turning the pages. Scanning the words. Trying to make sense of it. There— A passage. A spell. Instructions. Steps. My breath quickened. “This is it…” I leaned closer.

The bone door did not resist them the second time. Elif touched her still bleeding palm to its surface, and the shadows parted like curtains, the bones grinding against each other as the entrance swung open. She stepped through without hesitation, Niklas close behind her, their footsteps echoing in the darkness beyond. I felt bile rise to the surface, but I held it in, and concentrated on his scent only.

I took it out and read the title. It was only one word. Magic. It looked interesting so I took it and sat back down on the couch. The first few chapters were not that interesting. History of magic and spells. The next few chapters talked about potions and herbs. But the last chapter caught my attention. It simply said: “Prophecies”. I flipped over to the last chapter and started reading. It was about prophecies that already happened. It was about who made those prophecies and what they meant to the supernatural world. Nothing useful to me. I needed to know about the prophecy that didn’t happen already.

The title page and table of contents looks normal, but I keep flipping pages to get to chapter one. Two more pages and I’m staring at the first chapter, titled “Finding a Companion.” I almost missed the title completely because my eyes were drawn to the center of the page where there was a rectangular shaped wooden box. All the pages had been cut through the center to fit this box inside, and there was something carved into the box. It was an image of the compass rose and the words “You’re My True North.” I glance back up to the first sentence of the chapter and it reads, “When preparing for an adventure, the first, and possibly most important, decision is who you will choose as your comp
