Witches had been experimenting with time travel as long as we’d had powers, but hopping back a couple minutes or so was about the longest anyone had ever been able to accomplish. I’d never seen anyone be able to go forward. The closest you could get to the future was visiting an oracle or something like that and hoping they were real.

She had only traveled back 40 years so things were different but not so much that she didn’t recognize her surroundings. She was so delighted when she learned the creatures hadn’t taken over yet. She knew she could stop them. When she applied to become a maid again, it wasn’t easy. The royals did treat her poorly. She had managed to catch Richard’s eye somehow. That was not her plan, but it had happened. Richard still loved her even when he found out she was pregnant. She told him about time travel, but he didn’t know how far back, but when she told her what the creatures had done, he agreed. They couldn’t let them take over the world. Extinction was the answer.
