The bookstore had been an accident. Not the meeting, that had been planned. A brief handoff of a document Harry needed initialed for the Alejandro Fabrics contract renewal. Something that could be done in thirty seconds on a public sidewalk and explained to any observer as exactly what it was. But the bookstore itself had been unplanned. We had been standing outside it and Harry had said something about the window display. A comment about the novel featured there, something about the author having gotten the ending wrong in a way that was somehow more honest than a correct ending would have been.

Author Pov Harry inserted the key in the hole of the metal box and opened it only for his frown to deepen even more. He placed the box on the bed and took a seat beside it. Mehrmah left the room already but not before closing it.
