I click my tongue at her, "You introduced yourself to me as my new best friend, remember? Best friends should have each others phone numbers. Now hand it over, sister." Hestia hesitates once more but puts her phone in my hand. I smile in satisfaction and quickly enter the digits, sending myself a quick text to save her number on my phone as well. I hand her phone back to her, "Now, what should we do for the rest of the night? Do you know any good shows?" Before she could speak, the elevator chimes through the condo, signaling that someone was home. Dread comes upon me as footsteps echoes against the walls. A womans fluttery laugh is heard and my happiness is gone.

Adeline’s pov I tried not to cry again. This was something my tear ducts were used to, it was almost a routine to watch it dry up and so I sucked in the tears and thought happy thoughts. Thoughts that comprised of the good old earlier days. Looking back to the sequence of events which brought me to that house of brooding mystery, of sinister undercurrents and disturbing echoes. I sat on a wooden bench I had found as I became lost in thought all alone in the darkness.

The words died in my throat when I realized it wasn't one of my scouts. Adeline stood by the heavy oak doors, her hand still resting on the latch. She wasn't wearing her usual silk dresses. Instead, she was draped in a sheer, transparent robe that left absolutely nothing to the imagination. The firelight from the hearth licked at the curves of her body, casting long, honeyed shadows over skin that had been oiled to a shimmer. "What the hell are you doing in my office, Adeline?" I asked, my voice dropping into a dangerous, low register. “And in that?”

Her eyes looked distant—empty, as if she was carrying something she didn’t want to share. Without another word, she stood up and walked out of the room. "Where are the elixirs?" A tall shadow on the floor crossed Adeline's barely open eyes. The shadow was of a bulky man, his frame strong and sturdy, and on his hand was a whip. When his deep voice reached Adeline's faraway consciousness, the hairs at the back of her neck stood up. She clenched her fist in anger, despite losing every inch of her being. "We... don't have... such thing," Adeline replied in a hoarse voice, gritting her teeth.

Stefano stood there in the darkness watching her. Adeline was in a deep sleep with the moonlight shone to her porcelain skin. Her head was whipped from left to right and back and forth as if she was having another nightmare. Few things began to rise in the air in the room. It didn’t surprise him at all.
