I returned to my seat once he calmed down. “I'm sorry; I surprised you earlier,” I said softly. He looked up at me and shrugged. “It's okay; I just didn't expect you to ask that. And to answer your question, I haven't had a girlfriend.” What? He hasn't had a girlfriend yet? It's a bit hard to believe. “Seriously? You haven't had a girlfriend?” He sheepishly nodded. “Yeah, I was waiting for someone.” I paused; he was waiting for someone? “Wait? Is she your first love?” I blurted out without thinking.

And my damn traitorous body seemed to have its own mind, always defying me. "I've never had a girlfriend in my life, Alessandra and I want you to be my girl. I want you to be mine." He declared sternly. Determination laced at every single word, interrupting my thoughts. His index finger stroking the rim of his mug and his eyes locked on mine. "Really?" I can't believe he didn't have any girlfriends. What does he call those girls he flaunts around with? Different flavors every week. I mentally scoffed.

Then, unexpectedly, he asked, “Can I ask you something?” “Sure.” “Would you be my girlfriend?” My heart skipped, I’m supposed to be excited that I was moving on but panic rushed in. “I… I can’t,” I said softly. He nodded slowly. “Why?” I shook my head. “I’m not ready. For anything like that yet.” He studied my face for a moment, then smiled kindly. “Yet hun? That’s okay. We can start as friends right?” Relief flooded me, at least I wasn't losing him. “I’d like that.”

Kidding. I sat down before answering him. "Ah, I know I asked my question super late, but won't your girlfriend be angry? I mean you know that? We don't have a relationship or anything but knowing that you have a girlfriend and you're going out with me, is kinda scandalous." I have a long litany of him. Why did I just think of this now? "Girlfriend? Who?" He confusedly asked. I frowned at his answer which was also a question.

I contemplated asking him question that I had in mind then ,I decided to say it out without thinking much about it. "Do you have a girlfriend?" I blurted out and the first look on his face was confusion. "No I don't," He replied despite being confused as to why I asked him that. "Why are you asking me that?" He asked. "I have seen you hanging out with any girl so I was just curious." I replied as I was already dancing around at the back of my mind. "Oh my girlfriend and I broke up a couple months back so no worries." He answered.

He just called it that probably because he didn’t want to say affair, not like anything was wrong with that tag. “Relationship?” She asked even though she knew she should not push him and let him spell it out in words that it was an affair. “Of course, you are my girlfriend, don’t you know that fact?” He asked and she could only stare at him in shock. Girlfriend? He thinks she is his girlfriend? “Girlfriend?” “Why do you look so shocked, Soph? you are my girlfriend, my woman, is that news to you?” he asked. She opened her mouth to say something but the words just didn’t come out, he thought of her as his girlfriend? He never asked her. She didn’t even dare to have that thought or let it deve

I asked in anger. “He asked me to be his girlfriend.”

I chimed in. “What?” He asked. “You said you didn't have a girlfriend.” I responded and watched him smile lightly. “Well, I'm asking you now. Will you be my girlfriend?”

he assured me, his expression filled with happiness. With a smile, I gently moved his hand away from my face and walked back to my bed. "I've always wondered... do you have a girlfriend?" I murmured, and he furrowed his brow. "Why do you ask?" he responded. "Well, you've been devoting all your time to me. Wouldn't she be upset?" I further inquired, and he chuckled, shaking his head. "I don't have a girlfriend, Timbre. If I did, you would have known."

I responded quietly, confused on why he would ask me to accompany him when he obviously has a girlfriend. "Lisa isn't my girlfriend, there wasn't even a time she was. I never had a girlfriend before, not even a single one. She was just a fling I did away with a long time ago but she wouldn't just let me be or accept the fact that I'm done with her" he said making me freeze.
