I pushed myself off the floor and started hunting for Chase. I knew he wasn't in his room, so I started yanking doors open and poking my head inside empty rooms. I kept walking and walking while holding her but I could nowhere see the mansion. All I saw was woods and thick woods. “God,” I looked around and tried to locate the mansion but I couldn’t, my legs hurt terribly.

It was easy to tell he was one of them too, I knew all he had to say was how beautiful I was and how he’d like to be friends with me. I entered the car, ignoring the attendant and began driving away. I was trying to find the perfect music for my sour mood when he pulled up beside me, driving ahead as he blocked my path abruptly. I was enraged. Was he that desperate? Was I that beautiful that he had the strength to chase after me?

“I don’t need to know. I just need to win.” He stared at me, disbelief shadowing his features. “You think that’s strength?” he said finally. “It’s not. It’s desperation dressed as courage.” A bitter smile tugged at my lips. “Maybe. But desperation’s all I have left.” Liam’s expression softened, just for a moment.
