Chapter 61: Mimi Pov; I used to think the worst pain in the world was heartbreak. I was wrong. Heartbreak is loud. It crashes into you, makes a mess, bleeds everywhere. You cry, scream, fall apart, and people see it. There's a release in that. There’s proof that something mattered. What I was feeling now was quieter. Heavier. It sat in my chest like a stone that refused to move, refused to let me breathe properly.

I used to have a playful, sweet son, Shawn Sorensen. But now, his skin looked pale and puffy from being underwater for too long. The blood on the severed half of his hand had dried up a long time ago, but it would never heal. People kept telling me to cry and get my pain out, but I didn't. I quietly handled everything for Shawn before placing him in the cold coffin. That was when I got a call from Zach Sorensen.

🥀 CLARA'S POV 🥀 My heart felt like it had been shattered into a million pieces, each one piercing my soul like a shard of glass. The pain was overwhelming, a crushing weight that threatened to consume me. I felt empty, and hollow, like a part of me had been ripped away. Every breath I took felt like a struggle, every beat of my heart a reminder that the person I love would never love me back. My heart was broken, extremely broken, and I didn't know how to put it back together again. All I could do was hold on to the fragments, and hope that someday, somehow, I would find a way to heal.

“I don’t want to lose you.” Sophia felt her heart skip a beat. The walls she had built around herself were crumbling, and she couldn’t stop it. She didn’t want to stop it. She closed the distance between them, her lips brushing against his in a soft, hesitant kiss. It was a kiss filled with uncertainty, with fear, but also with hope. Hope that maybe, just maybe, they could find something good in the midst of all the chaos. But just as the kiss deepened, a loud crash echoed through the woods, shattering the moment.

I once read in a magazine, while getting my hair done on a particular day several months ago, that it had been scientifically suggested and proven that heartbreak felt the same way that physical pain does. "A broken heart is a metaphor for the intense emotional stress or pain that one feels at experiencing a great loss or a great longing." the magazine had read, "Most people have experienced a broken heart, and there are multiple possible causes for it. But whether it comes from a break up with a significant other or the death of a loved one, heartbreak is never easy."

He really was speaking from the bottom of his heart… Why? Why did he have to wait until that moment? It was too late for that! My heart was already broken. Even if we managed to fix it, there would still be a hideous scar on it. My tears rolled down like rain, and the pain I had was mixed with hatred. I pushed him away like a lunatic, telling him to get lost. However, his body weakly fell to the ground, and I was stunned by what had happened so suddenly. I reached out my foot to kick him a little. "Stop playing dead. Yoel? Yoel!"

The pain of loss hit her all at once, overwhelming her. Madeline noticed something was wrong and rushed over in alarm. "What's wrong?" Halsey pressed her hand to her chest, struggling to speak. "I don't know what's happening to me… It hurts here, right in my heart." "Your heart hurts? I'll go get a doctor!" Madeline moved to leave the room. Halsey grabbed Madeline's arm, stopping her. "No, don't go! Don't get a doctor." Madeline looked at her in shock. "Why..."

Not like this. But to look at her now, unconscious, fragile, hardly breathing, something in me broke. I scooped her up into my arms, cradling her against me. She was so light. Too light. I swallowed. Damn it, Adeline. I had closed her out to break her. But maybe… just maybe… I'm the one who's broken instead. I tightened my arms around Adeline's limp body, my heart racing in my chest. "Stop teasing me," I muttered, rocking her gently. "Just wake up."

Tears soaked my pillow as I hugged it tightly, sobbing uncontrollably. Why? Why had my life turned into this? Why did the man I love keep leaving me? Why didn’t I even have a shoulder to lean on? Exhaustion finally pulled me into a restless sleep. … The next morning, I woke up with a pounding headache. I couldn’t remember how I’d gotten home the night before. My eyes landed on a neatly folded note on the nightstand: "Eat something before work. I rescheduled the meeting for today’s case." The handwriting was precise and elegant, and the memories of last night came rushing back.

Clutching my face, I steeled myself against the stabbing pain in my abdomen and the tears threatening to fall. Through the haze of my blurred vision, his face slowly dissolved into a vague silhouette. No matter how much I tried, I couldn't reconcile the hateful man in front of me with the one who once pledged a lifetime of love.
