All of Aiden's emotions and certain memories assult me; coming through the thread that connects us. It's too much all at once. I clutch at my chest and stomach gasping for air. I can't breathe. I can't speak. A sound like that of a wounded animal comes from my chest. Tears sting my eyes. My heart bangs against my chest as if trying to break free.

I clutch my head, hair tangled in my fingers, nails digging, scraping skin, whatever, anything to ground myself. The Warden hums. I hear it before I see the movement, soft, broken, a thread of melody through the crushing gravity. Bittersweet. So familiar it hurts. Each note is a memory, each vibration pulling against the black star, balancing. I see their eyes close, their chest heaving. They are adding joy into it, pouring in everything that’s left of love and laughter, every fragile thing that still shines.

They slide up my torso, over my ribs, converge at the center of my chest—right over the place where the bond hums. For a heartbeat, nothing happens. Then something grabs hold of it. Not hands. Not claws. Him. Or the place where he lives inside me. It pulls. Not at my body— at him. At the place he carved into me and never left. Pain explodes through me. Not like a knife, not like a burn. Like being unraveled from the inside. Every thread of me tugged in a different direction. I scream. The sound rips out of my throat without my consent, raw and ugly.

I since the same message into my mind hoping rona would hear it somehow. With a heaviness on my heart, I force my mind forward pushing what little power I had to force the magic out of the strings painfully and slowly the broke thread by thread. A torturing agony spread through my body like wild fire. I let out a scream like I have never screamed before, this was a pain like I never felt before. I could feel every nerve of my heart and mind rip in half as the bond was destroyed.

I didn't bother to turn knowing well enough that if I did, I would run back to him and finally give into the urge of feeling his lips on mine. Feel. Feel your heart racing at his smile. My heart skipped a beat, my tears moist right then. I dropped to a crouch and held him, pressing my ear against his chest again. I could hear his heartbeat, thumping powerfully through his thin shirt. It was such a familiar sensation. It was Stan's heartbeat. As I closed my eyes, my tears flowed ever so quietly. We stayed like that for a while, and as I wiped my tears, I held Nathan firmly in my arms once more. "Please live a good life with Stan's heart." - Nathan walked with me to the gates of the orphanage, but I never once turned to look at him again.

"Five years? That is just so not fair, Damien. Two years was, like, already too long; now it is five?! She continued, her voice breaking with sorrow, and she sobbed, tears streaming down her face. "Do not cry," he said, his own voice cracking. "I cannot bear to see you so distressed. I am so very sorry." Torn by heartache himself, Damien knew he would still have to go through with the arrangement. They had sacrificed enough, and he had to follow through with his promise. "I hate this, Damien!" Clara wailed, beating his chest before collapsing into his arms.

I was not bleeding yet, but somehow I knew that after I slowly start to pull these foreign objects out, one by one, the blood will come gushing out. It kind of leaves one breathless, like when you’re running on a treadmill, or rowing away as if some ghost from the past is chasing you. There is burning in your lungs as you desperately try to draw in enough air to sustain functionality. You are tired—your muscles are giving up and you just can’t anymore...

That’s how you’re still breathing after everything. The water suddenly felt too hot. You’re telling me… all of that— The screams that tore me apart. The way my chest ached every time he broke. The lullaby I didn’t even know I remembered was because some cosmic red string decided we belong to each other? Bree’s voice dropped to something small and ancient. (Yes. And he feels it too. He just doesn’t know how to live with it yet.) I sank under the water until everything went quiet.
