Trapped in the Heat
That godforsaken place was on the outskirts, so it took quite the effort.
"When we forced the car open…" Franklin's eyes were red, and he choked on his words.
"Tell me," I pressed, my voice shaking.
"The car's A/C was off."
My heart dropped. "What? Why?"
"The temperature was unbearable, and there was no oxygen. She wasn't breathing. Her whole body... We... We..."
"Stop it. Just show me," I demanded.
He handed me his phone. The photo showed the car door pried open, the windows covered in desperate scratches and traces of blood. I could see the marks Sally made trying to escape, her little nails broken and scattered.
